Jalen still leading the QB drills I hear...
Perhaps I’m being naive but I’m not worried about the QB situation at all. If Saban hadn’t pulled the trigger in the second half of the Natty (and fricken stuck with Tua after that god awful int) then I might be worried but Saban’s shown he learned from the AU game. That’s why he and The Bear are the greatest (they adapt).
I’m not sure what Saban’s plan is with Hurts but he’s now proven he’s not blindly dedicated to him.
Relative to the 4 game redshirt, I wouldn’t be surprised if Saban gives 2 and his family the choice at some point (e.g., if Tua becomes the Full Time (every play) starter he ask them whether they want 2 to play as the back-up or let MJ have those game reps short of an injury to Tua that would elevate 2 back to the starter).

FWIW, I love 2. I’m sure Saban does too. Although we (i assume) both wish he’d been a little more judicious with his comments recently.
However, I have full confidence that Saban knows and has seen at least as much as we have relative to the QB battle and will play Tua as much as is best under the circumstances.
Eta: To be clear, I mean I think Saban now believes Tua is the more dynamic QB and will game plan as such.
Saban plays chess - I can’t keep up but wouldn’t be shocked (along with continuing to develop 2) if he’s using 2 to push Tua to continue to improve. Saban loves the growth that naturally comes from competition and Tua is still young.
I’m better at my job than another cat I work with but if my boss made it clear we were competing for one spot i would probably push myself a good bit more.

Reliable BOL insider -- "When the media leaves Tua is the guy. Saban keeps Jalen ahead in drills...but when they leave Tua is up 1st and has gotten most the 1st team reps."

I figured this to be the case. Saban is the master troll.

Garfield stop being reasonable and let everyone have thier fun. Killing time with unecessary worry is what football fans do during the off season.

On the topic of R Davis, I was listening to a podcast with Cole Cubelic talking about line players in CFB for 40 minutes - great podcast - and he said the best Dline units in the country are Clemson, Auburn, and maybe Ohio State. He put Bama in the top 5, but stated it was more about the fact that we are always great at that unit. He then rattled off the rest of the top 10 units, and it was all SEC. Miss St is legit on the DLine, and LSU, Tex AM, Georgia, and even Florida have disruptive guys.
But...
He said as a former Olineman, that Raekwon Davis is the single most difficult player to block in CFB, due to the fact that he's abnormally tall and long for the position, but still plays with a low pad level.. He said that it's impossible to get under Davis and to get your hands on him. He says Davis is better than anyone in CFB at preventing Olinemen from getting their hands on him, and if you can't do that, you can't block him. He's just an absolute nightmare to block.

LINK ]Alabama practice notes on dime defense, Najee Harris (al.com)

Alabama practiced Wednesday afternoon, working outside on a warm, mostly sunny day in Tuscaloosa.
Here are some notes from the media viewing period:
-- Injured running back Najee Harris was back out for the media viewing period for the first time since suffering a foot injury during Alabama's first preseason scrimmage Aug. 11. The sophomore was off working with athletic trainer Jeff Allen.
"This is not a long-term issue that we think is going to be a significant problem for him even to be ready for the first game," head coach Nick Saban said last week of Harris.
-- Alabama's first-team nickel defense consisted of Trevon Diggs and Saivion Smith at cornerback, Xavier McKinney and Deionte Thompson at safety, Mack Wilson and Dylan Moses at linebacker and Shyheim Carter at Star. Jared Mayden was the sixth defensive back when the defense went into dime. He was at safety and McKinney slid down to Money. Wilson was the dime linebacker.
-- The second-team dime defense: Josh Jobe and Patrick Surtain at cornerback, Daniel Wright and Eddie Smith at safety, Diggs at Star, Kyriq McDonald at Money and Markail Benton at linebacker.
-- Alex Leatherwood continues to work at right guard with Jedrick Wills at right tackle.
-- It looked like Richie Petitbon was the second-team right tackle and like freshman Emil Ekiyor was the second-team center.
-- The outside linebacker line during drills: Anfernee Jennings, Christian Miller, Jamey Mosley, Ben Davis, Cameron Latu, Jarez Parks and then Eyabi Anoma.
-- Athletic director Greg Byrne was out for the early portion of practice.

I still find this weird. It doesn't matter, because both are studs who will dominate this year no matter where they play, but it just feels like Wills is more of a guard whereas Leatherwood is the prototype at tackle. I'm sure they made the switch for a reason, and if they're still going with it then clearly it's working better than before, but it's just interesting.
ETA: Also I really like Ekiyor working with the 2s. I think he can start next season and I'm picturing him and Wills next to each other absolutely mauling people
