I wonder what Kiffin sold him on. Howard is a total beast and only looks to get better, so adding a JC tight end who'll be competing for PT with one of the best offensive players on Bama's roster for his entire remaining eligibility sounds a bit odd unless he's going to be used primarily as a blocker. Guess y'all just have to wait and see what plans Kiffin has for the offense.

OJ Howard will win the Heisman, with Jacob Coker coming in second, and Yeldon in third

I think they probably just sold him on a second chance. He probably didn't care much about circumstances

He got caught selling his textbooks from his scholarship and those of another student for cash. Got arrested for that somehow, but it wasn't the biggest deal. Short suspension since it was thought he was just a kid who didn't know any better.
After that, he got caught smoking weed in his dorm. RA called the cops. The cops only found marijuana residue, but JHC (who was in the room with him at the time) got scared and admitted to smoking weed. When the cops searched TFS' room more thoroughly, they found weed paraphernalia, a scale, and a bunch of plastic bags. They didn't charge him, but Richt connected the dots and threw him off.

Wow. I'm amazed Saban is willing to take him in. Guess the guy has a silver tongue and possible an entire church (Catholic, of course) congregation serving as character witnesses in order to convince Saban he's genuinely contrite. He may not have been charged, but everyone with a clue knows the signs of dealing rather than simple possession. Unlike lots of programs, Bama has absolutely no pressing need for any random player, no matter how good he is, so Saban must be genuinely convinced the guy has turned over a new leaf.

I genuinely hope he makes the most of his chance at Bama. I was just surprised when I heard Bama was even interested

WRT the textbook incident, he was arrested for filing a false police report because he claimed they were stolen. Hadn't heard about the pot stuff though I'm skeptical anyone could escape charges in the situation that was described.

They didn't actually find any weed. None of that stuff is illegal to have

We haven’t had any problems with Ty,” Williams said. “He has done fine in the Cadet Core. He has worked hard on the field, and he has done well in the classroom. He came in with a good attitude, and he was really helpful with some of our freshmen guys. He has shown good leadership in helping them get past the freshmen challenges they all deal with. We’ve been very pleased with him. He’s a good young man and will do well.”

Didn't say he was. It's just a risk for a program like Alabama to bring him in

Not sure Richt kicked him off. I recall reading that he was suspended and just withdrew from school.

JHC just Narced on him under the pressure, he could've been selling instead of Ty no one knows but usually residue, baggies paraphernalia etc will alert someone to keep an eye on you but not enough to arrest

He met with Richt immediately after the incident and decided to transfer. He wasn't going to be on the team anymore, at least for an extended period of time
