Interesting technology.
quote:

The process does, however, require the foam to be heated at 392 degrees

This would obviously be appropriate only for public installations, as I would imagine the energy costs to run this full-time would be outlandish.

Here’s the problem with opening the schools: it’s not the kids, (not the large majority) it’s the teachers and staff. There’s a small but significant number of staff and teachers that are in the vulnerable cohort. And if a teacher is out sick, who will substitute? Subs will be extremely hard to come by under the circumstances. You are almost required to have at least a portion of your classes online to reduce the number of classes and therefore, teachers needed. It’s a conundrum.

My daughter’s school has one particular math teacher that is excellent and brilliant and she teaches the higher maths and dual enrollment courses such as calculus. But she’s in her 80’s. Do you think she should be expected to be in a classroom with 4-5 different groups of kids every day?

MeeMaw Ivey issues statewide mask mandate. Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis continues to fiddle while Florida burns.

She also said it's unenforceable, so... nothing will change. The people who were already wearing masks will still wear them, the people who weren't, won't.

Mostly true, though I think a lot of businesses will now require them for people to enter the business. Especially in and around the bigger cities.

Actually, it will but not because of Kay.

Wal-Mart and Sam's are going to start requiring masks for all customers on 7/20 so a lot more people will be wearing one.

Having said that, I'll make the same blanket prediction I've been making - it won't matter.

The real risk for contracting it is prolonged close exposure. Within 6 feet for 15 minutes. That's not passing in the aisles. It's at home, visiting friends, at work, or in a concentrated place like a bar. Nobody's wearing a mask at those places or activities because either they don't perceive a threat or it isn't practical for the activity.

Hope for Alabama's sake that the death numbers hit a bit of a plateau. Looks like the current situation is the worst of the pandemic so far in the state (this is only a factual statement, not an opinion on what should be done about this factual statement - you guys can do that separately).

10 Largest Death Increases by Day
1. July 15 - 47
2. July 14 - 40
3. July 10 - 36
4. May 12 - 28
5. June 24 - 27
5. May 6 - 27
7. July 7 - 26
7. June 8 - 26
7. May 8 - 26
10. July 8 - 25

5 of the 10 worst death total days have been in the last week. 13% of the state's total deaths (1,211) have happened in the last 7 days (153). The last 7 days make up 6.3% of the total days between the first death and today (March 26 to July 15).

10 Largest Hospitalization Increases by Day
1. July 13 : +267
2. June 16 : +132
3. July 6 : +131
4. July 5 : +85
5. June 22 : +65
6. June 30 : +61
7. June 29 : +60
8. July 10 : +58
9. July 7 : +57
10. July 2 : +46

Largest increase was 9 days after Independence Day. Right in the window they said there would be a spike because of holiday gatherings. You’re still a week to 10 days from peak case resolutions/deaths.

This because now it is a liability for the businesses if someone contracts it there and dies from it.

In NC especially outside of some little country store most businesses are mandating it. Walmart will not let you in here without one and have people working the front door handing them out.

Walmart apparently just made masks inside their stores a corporate policy applicable at all locations.

Let's hope this single act of rational is contagious. It would be wonderful if all retailers felt the pressure to follow suit.

Not really. Because of the nature of the illness there's no way you can trace it back to a trip to a retail location. The odds of contracting it on a trip to a retail store are so incredibly low no plaintiff attorney would mess with a case.

It's more of a PR move for the big stores. They get to put forward a positive image of doing what they can to fight the pandemic.

I'm perfectly fine with requiring masks for that reason. Were I get really put out is this "touchless" service at places like drive through windows. Around here they put your bag on a tray, stick the tray out the window, and call it "touchless."

Like the worker's hand is more dangerous to me if it's holding the bag than it was when it was used to put the bag on the tray 10 seconds ago.
