Hey fearmonger, schools should open up and that plague happens every year. Like 7 times in the U.S. last year. Stop reading fear shite.
Can I make a suggestion? Try having an adult discussion without resorting to calling names. It can be pretty enjoyable.
For example, you could have said that you completely agree with the American Academy of Pediatrics position that in person education should be the starting point of every discussion about school this fall.
You could point out that studies of child care centers that have stayed open during the pandemic recorded very few transmissions of the virus between both staff and students and an Iceland study found very few transmissions from parent to child.
If you did that you could say that when viewed in whole, along with the already known statistics that show kids are far less likely to catch it than adults opening schools is the right decision.
But, of course, that takes work and name calling is SO much easier.

Or he/she can stop being scared of everything he/she reads. Even better. Stop spreading the nonsense.
Interesting you didn't mention the fearmongering plague. Same person was probably worried about the murder hornet.

Your obsession with other people's reactions to things is pretty weird. It's one thing to disagree with their concerns, which would be fine, but belittling them for it just makes you come across as an a-hole with hostility and anger issues.

None of which has anything to do with resorting to name-calling when you don't like the post. Why is that so hard to understand?

If you have read his other posts, you would realize belittling others is his MO.
So your not concerned. We get it.

I want to start seeing the morbidity rates counted. How many "recoveries" are actual full recoveries and not someone who didn't die but now has to live with permanent damage?
On another note, some good news regarding T-cell activity being a possible barrier between mild and severe cases.

Since nearly every epidemic for the last 100 years except E Bola has originated in China, I think it's wise to remain up to date on health news out of there, especially since the WHO has shown themselves to be incompetent at best. Call it fear mongering if you want, I call it forewarned is forearmed. If you want to be a small minded jackass, please go do it somewhere else. The intelligent people are trying to have a discussion.

Interesting to note, while the case load continues to rise to record levels almost daily, the death figures I saw this morning continue to decline. I haven't seen recent data on hospitalizations.

Alabama had been holding steady for a couple of months but over the last week they've jumped pretty significantly.

That graph looks a little... off on the front end.

I think it's only the last 6 weeks - not sure why they still show the previous time period when there is no data for it

I think the next 2 weeks will begin to answer questions about how much more successfully we can treat severe cases and/or if the mutations in the virus have made it any less potent.
The surge of hospitalizations / deaths in the Northeast started about a month after widespread infections began and peaked around 6-8 weeks later.
That's based on most research which puts period of rampant spread between mid-February and mid-March.
Three weeks after the first surge of cases does not really reveal much based on what happened in the NE.

What did I say that was out of line?

Stomp, he just replied to your post but he was talking to Crimsonians.
Hospitalizations continue to rise in the state. 7 day average of 903 with nearly 1100 currently in the hospital. One month ago, our hospitalization was at ~570.

This right here is the real concern. Which also seems to be the latest research concerning those healthy between the ages of 20-45. The group that show no or very little symptoms but may experience long term damage. The younger and healthier bodies seem to be able to fight off the immediate attack of the virus but can not escape the possible long term effects.

Yeah, I agree. Since I'm in NYC, I have a lot of friends/acquaintances who had it in March. Kind of the same story in terms of only around 1/5 that now have the antibodies actually getting very sick and lots of examples like couples where one got sick and the other hardly at all.
However, my friends that did get sick, mainly 25-45yo, describe it being very bad:
20+ straight days with consistently worse than the most severe flu symptoms they've ever had
5 consecutive days without being able to walk to the bathroom by themselves
104+ fever and confusion to the point they had trouble with things as mundane as dialing phone numbers
3 months later and still feeling out of breath easily and lightheaded
Anecdotally, it doesn't seem to hit all that many healthy people badly but when it does it packs a hell of a punch.
That's why I really hope we're now dealing with a slightly less potent version than what hit the Northeast in February/March.

It was reported that the Brazilian president has COVID and made a short video of how he's treating himself with the malaria drug. He actually had a mask on during his interview and asked people not to come near. Mask, social distancing? What a concept.

Madison, Mobile and Jefferson County now have mask ordinances.
