Do we have any reason to be optimistic? We need a token white kid who can actually play.

This is an update from today from an A&M perspective if anyone wants to summarize.

I think A&M is the other school. Pretty sure that’s what Hank south said

Chris Stewart said on Twitter that all but 6 NBA teams were at the pro day. Some of those were because of Michael screwing up travel. That's pretty impressive in my books.

VIP Timme update:

-A&M has made multiple trips to his school, has had an in-home visit, and will visit again today
-Timme likes that it’s close to home, he likes the coach, and some friends go there. He said he likes A&M a lot.
-He enjoyed his first 2 officials to A&M and Gonzaga. He’ll still take the Bama visit and still has to decide who gets the last 2 visits.
-Timme said both of A&M’s 2019 recruits stay in touch constantly and Timme said “Those are my guys...they keep saying they’re waiting on me”.
-Timme on his visit to Bama: “I’ll get to see what Coach Avery has been building with my own eyes. That basketball program is on the rise. He knows what to do and what it takes to get you to the next level. I’m just looking to pick his brain.”

I get it's from an A&M perspective, but that makes our chances look pretty bleak.

Yeah, there isn't one single thing in there that sounds positive for us.

It was definitely from an A&M view, so I wouldn’t put TOO much into it. I’ll wait and see what’s said from the Bama side after his visit before I worry. I do think A&M probably leads right now tho, but they aren’t a lock

We gonna be good this year yall. Mack is a major upgrade from Key and The dropoff from Collin to Kira isnt as big as yall think.(I think Kira ends up being a top 20 prospect if he stayed in 2019). Petty and Reese being more consistent great shooters. Herb should be improved offensively too.

As long as we limit Riley Norris and AJ Jr. playing time we gonna be better than last year IMO.

I think we'll be better, but there's usually a huge difference between a top 20 prospect and a top 5 prospect. I think Kira is a really good freshman, but to expect him to be anything more than league average at PG is asking a little much of him in his first year much less for him to be anything close to one of the nation's best players.

Bro, dont be ruining my optimism. Let me at least have it until we lose to an awful team OOC or are in a 54-52 game against Southern with 30secs left.

Anybody remember when KenPom's preseason numbers come out? Will be curious to see how we look there.

Is this going to be the year that Giddens takes the next step and actually plays like the player he looks to be? His body type screams a 12 and 7 type player.

He needs to take 2 or 3 steps to become a 12 and 7 guy. He has 2 massive issues that have to be worked on and they're both not easy to fix: defending without fouling and bad hands.

I think the defending without fouling is fixable, but it's harder for him because he'll still get called for fouls simply because of his size. When people run into him he doesn't give way, which is how he racked up a lot of bad calls last year.

Bad hands, on the other hand, are the hardest thing to correct on a big man because it's mostly natural ability. That's one of the most valuable traits for a big man to have and is a big reason why Donta Hall was so successful on offense last year. He got pushed around a lot, but because he had fantastic hands it didn't matter because he could catch anything sent his way even when in a terrible position. It's also extremely important on rebounds. Giddens had this issue of slapping/tipping the ball around instead of grabbing it.

It's possible he becomes that guy for us, but I'd look more towards next year (after Hall leaves) than this year.
