Memphis reporter Isaac Simpson:
Looks like it’ll be Ole Miss. But he DID just visit Bama this past weekend so u never know I guess

I’ve been told some interesting things on the recruitment of DJ Jeffries that may not be so positive for the Univ. of Memphis. I expect a decision to come soon.

Alabama will play Jacksonville State in a scrimmage on October 27 according to Jeff Goodman

How the hell do they do it.

We’re talking about a 5-Star guy who was once committed to Kentucky. He decommitted and was a heavy Memphis lean.......then all of a sudden things change and he’s likely headed to Ole Miss. Who decommits from Kentucky, passes on Memphis, and plays for Ole Miss in basketball? Makes no sense.

Lawd if Penny comes up empty on Jeffries, Wiseman and Watford after the hoopla of his first 3 months........that'd be rough.

He put his bids in too soon. Gave other programs plenty of time to raise funds. Ole Miss has no real reason to spend big on football recruits right now since their team is dogshit, so basketball will happily pick up the slack.

Most cost effective method. You only have to pay 5-7 recruits and the going rate for a 5* is what? Around $100,000 give or take?
Compare that to football where you need to pay 22 kids
Auburn allegedly paid a JUCO player $180-200,000. If a JUCO player commands that price in 2010 right after the recession, got to imagine the price is jacked up a lot higher now

Didn't we have a guy on the staff that set up the meetings?? Turned himself in and quit when the FBI stuff started. Right?

I honestly think we are just gonna vacate last seasons wins and NCAA tournament appearance.....Which doesnt bother me because I saw it happen.

That was just a meeting for like a $70 meal for Collin’s dad and they paid it back and the NCAA cleared him. This is a whole different case now

Cool, that makes loads of sense. We had no clue Sexton was paid, but let's get punished for it anyways. This is like you getting a 0 on your test because someone else cheated off of it, despite not knowing a damn thing about it.
Don't care if it's considered a "slap on the wrist", it's bull shite.

If the NCAA tournament appearances are vacated you have to pay back all the money made from them too. At least this was done in the past with some teams.

I'm sure our deep-pocketed booster club is extremely worried about that and will delay the Coleman renovations another 5 years to make sure we can handle that hit.

Amazing that they let Scam play.

Not knowing a player's eligibility isn't an excuse according to NCAA, a school has a NCAA compliance department for a reason

Which part? Forfeiting games or any addt'l repercussions?
Not sure why forfeiting games would be BS. A player's eligibility status isn't based on how much coaches know. Those games still had an ineligible participant according to NCAA's BS business model
As for punishment beyond that, it depends what NCAA hands out. If it is punitive, then I would agree it is BS if Bama staff didn't know
If the NCAA though just demands addt'l compliance safeguards and "probation" to monitor the implementation then I see no problem
