We haven’t recruited him in awhile. I think he’ll go to Georgia now

Just seems like how our fans rate Dazon doesn't really match up with how Avery does.

I think it's a little early to say that, seeing as how he has never really been too threatened for PT. Herb made a case for him being more valuable than Ingram, but he also had a very inconsistent offensive game (for an already inconsistent offensive team) and a high foul count. With some progression from Jones and the addition of Mack, Norris, and Lewis (to replace Sexton), the pressure on his starting position and PT in general is much higher than it was last year.

I disagree. Last year Avery still started Ingram even though playing him alongside Sexton messed up spacing. Norris was playing at times last year and while we added Mack, Key left, so in terms of challenges for PT, that's a wash. If anything, Kira being a less ball dominant player than Sexton will fit better alongside Ingram.

When Ingram and Petty played together in the backcourt without Sexton, they were good last season. I'd rather start with that lineup that has developed some chemistry. If you start Kira, Petty, and Mack, the bench really lacks scoring options too.

That said, I 100% could see a fulfilling a recruiting promise to start him being the situation. Interesting dynamic but could be the case

What why?

How do kids "reclassify" and start a year early? I mean, obviously he didn't graduate last spring, so how can he skip a year now?

When I was in high school like four years ago, I'd finished all but one or two of my required classes before Senior year. Senior year was almost all dual enrollment, AP, or electives.

That what I figured as well. I bet Kira only had a class or two left and was going to try to finish them online over the summer. As it became more evident he’d be able to finish them, he knew he’d be able to enroll in August instead of January which is why he moved his commitment date up.

I see. I figured it was something along those lines, but I'm old and don't understand the workings of modern schooling. In my day, you just went to school until you graduated and everyone was pretty much on the same schedule.

Matt Jones (KY talking head), said the SEC bball will be better than its been in a long, long, time. He thinks KY and TN could be final 4 teams, and Auburn just a notch below them. Then there are seven other teams that could be very good. He included Ala in those 7.

I’m not saying we will, but I think we can compete for the SEC this season

Coaches make recruiting promises all the time

Truth is, whoever doesn't start is still going to see 25+min per game. That is "starter" caliber minutes despite not being official starter

I'm hesitant to get too excited, because I'm not sure how I feel about Avery's coaching, but I do think, top to bottom, this should be a better team than last year. It would have been great to have Sexton back, but I think the incoming players, Mack being eligible to play, and the added experience will more than make up for losing him.

Someone on Twitter asked Jeff Goodman how Herbert did at the Nike Skills Academy and he said he got hurt the first day. Now he won’t tell anyone what happened or how bad it is

You don't think we could get both? Those two I feel we can land

Maybe. I would just think the chances of landing both would be small

I guess it depends on what we're talking about. I don't think it's too early to say that Avery thinks pretty highly of Dazon. He's been a starter/big minute guy from the second he got here (second in minutes per game last year).

Now on the other point, I wasn't really arguing that his PT wasn't going to drop some, just that I don't think he'll be benched. Even then, I doubt his minutes will dramatically change

Will Kira jump right into Sexton's spot as our top minutes per game guy? I guess it's possible.

I'm also in "show me" mode with Mack, partially just as an Alabama basketball fan defense mechanism. But regardless, even if he doesn't pull a Nick King, part of his PT is going to be replacing Braxton's 25 minutes a game.

The variables here are Norris (I think we could see some lineups with him and Mack, or him and Jones as the wing forwards) and Butler. If Butler and Kira are both available (and good), that would probably be a bigger drain on Dazon's minutes than anything. That and how much Herb improves.

I mean there's a world where Herb leads the team in minutes this year. But I'm not sure it's close to a lock that a guy like Petty jumps Dazon in minutes, or sends him to the bench. I mean forget just Petty's road splits, he kind of needs to learn how to dribble too.

Right here with you on Mack. I feel like every time we've had a transfer come in, the year they are ineligible, they "light up practice" or "would be one of our best players if eligible" (See Kessens, King, Giddens, etc.). I think it's best for a wait and see/ show me approach with Mack. Even if he becomes just a role player, and not a otp 2-3 guy on the roster, I think we can be very good. If he becomes a top 2-3 player, I think we could legitimately be a dark horse for the SEC.
