Hasn't Byrne already obtained a preliminary design and cost estimate for a major interior renovation of Coleman and started working toward getting it funded?
Yeah, it was part of phase two of The Crimson Standard. Last we heard was that it wasn't fully funded yet, but that it was getting close. No idea how close "close" is, but I think that's all we know at this point.

It’s annoying as hell to hear the constant references to Alabama football
100% agree.

It makes me irrationally mad to hear that, and I’d like to strangle each and every talking head that utters those words. I hate it, and I hate that we can’t watch a damn basketball game without football and Saban being mentioned.
Same. I’ve been going to Bama basketball games and following them since the early 80s (yeah I’m old AF). I only barely remember the CM years but I’m a lifelong fan, and I never even played organized basketball. The idea Bama fans don’t support basketball is bullsheet.

The ONLY reason Oats would leave is because of facilities, and it would be our own fault
That's a pretty big ONLY ya got there, buddy.
But he wasn't raised in Birmingham. There's a few reasons he could leave at some point, but facilities are pretty much the ONLY one that we can control. If we get through this week, and win our region, then I'll be pretty pissed off we don't have announced facilities upgrades during the off-season.
I think a new arena sounds best. But if they can renovate Coleman so that it doesn't look like a Soviet Union era Siberian basketball arena, then I'm cool with that. Just as long as we aren't half-assing it, and create some of the best facilities in the country. If the University wants to keep growing, it's time for the athletic department to grow with it.

You think he’d “publicly” insult the facilities though?
It is as valid a take as saying the facilities are the only reason he’d leave. None of us have any idea what his future ambitions might be, so saying he would only leave over facilities is no more legitimate than saying he’s content with the facilities as they are now.

I haven't been to other arenas but I have been in Coleman when it was totally Rockin. The link below is to an article about Alabama beating an undefeated ranked number one Kentucky team. I was in grad school time and got a student guest ticket for my dad. We had to sit on the very top row against the wall to find a seat in the student section which at that time went almost to midcourt on that side. You could hardly hear yourself think. Hardly anyone set down the whole game. It scares me when I hear people talking about building a 8 or 10000 seat Arena.

If the media keeps bringing up Saban and the football, it will have to get under Oats' skin. He's earning his own spotlight.

You know what though...That's the reason why I think Nate Oats stays because of that simple aspect talking heads try to portray...WE'RE A FOOTBALL ONLY SCHOOL! That's not true but hey we got a COACH who's going to prove that we are not just a football only school!

He's also said a couple of times that he appreciates and enjoys that fact that football takes away from his spotlight/coverage because it enables him to just focus on the things he wants/needs to focus on while all the attention is elsewhere.

The training facilities, players, and coaches lounges are SICK. I think they renovated them a few years back if I'm not mistaken. The big renovation project that Byrne has come up with is "ABSOLUTELY SICK" shoot I like it and I think you could redo the outside of Coleman if it cost substantially less than a new arena. The "NINJA" is in control so I'm not worried about it. I have faith that he will have US something in the next year or two. Best AD in the business

Coach is a smart and I can almost guarantee you that he's learning from every LEGENDARY coach in Tuscaloosa. He's like a kid in the candy store.

So Texas will either get Beard or Scott Drew? Drew has to be at the top of the list, or am I an idiot

Wonder what happened to his son? He was an up and comer in the coaching profession.
Posted on 3/26/21 at 10:12 pm to RollTide4Ever
He was the HC at Niagra and then randomly resigned like six months after he was hired right before the season started for "personal reasons" and I don't think it was said what happened.
