I would like to see us bring in a new assistant to coach the bigs before giving up on Jacobs. Aside from Green, Carl is the only big guy who has shown any improvement under Grant, and that really isn't saying much considering that improvement has consisted of getting better at being tall.

And we need more people to feel this way. Get fricking upset people! We're never going to get any better by passively saying "well we still have football". bullshite. If you aren't upset, remove yourself from this board, because you're not really an Alabama fan. I, for one, love my school and want us to succeed in everything we do. Grant isn't cutting it.

You will piss some people off with this, but preach on brother. We have two separate fanbases. UA fans and UA football fans. Both groups come together for a few months in the fall, but otherwise don't interact very much. We need more of the former and less of the latter.

If Jacobs doesn't know how to do a tiny drop step to the right by now, I doubt he will ever learn. He looked and saw he had nowhere to go on his left, but he still didn't even look to go to his right, and that happens everytime. Don't get me wrong, I've said we need Pujol gone for a while, but no amount of post coaching is going to fix slow feet and terrible rebounding.

Got upset. Fired Gottfried. WE STILL SUCK! It has nothing to do with how much money we are willing to pay, how many fans show up, etc. Alabama is a mediocre basketball school. Good facilities, plenty of money, decent fan support, good coach, and they still suck. Even in Bama's supposed glory years, they were still a little above average.

How would you fix it? Pay a coach 2 million a year? You really think that's the difference?

Build a new coliseum?

Basketball is a sport that you don't need to be a huge school or write huge checks to win, Bama just doesn't have it and never will.

I already responded to this crap, but here you go again:

Florida had never gone to the NCAA tournament before 1987. UCONN had made it as far as the Sweet Sixteen 3 times prior to 1990. Since 1990 they have made it at least that far 13 times. Before the arrival of Coach K in 1980, Duke basketball had made the NCAA tournament a grand total of 8 times.

I actually think he should have another year, barring a complete fallout this season. I've always felt coaches should have at least four years.

You say this like it is supposed to mean something. Okay, two teams became good basketball programs and won championships.

What did they do? How were they different? What can Alabama do to duplicate that success? Does it begin at the high school level?

My father won multiple state championships as a basketball coach in Alabama. The state of high school basketball in Alabama--outside of a few schools--is pretty pathetic. Is that the problem?

The Ath. Dept. has already spends plenty of money on a program that doesn't produce. What is the magic number they must spend?

Bama does not have the natural advantages of either a Florida or Duke. We are going to be a middle of the pack SEC team with a few flashes of brilliance.

Doesn't mean I'm not going to watch.

Step 1: Hire an elite coach. UF, UConn, and Duke hired Billy D, Calhoun, and KPolishletters. Easier said than done, but it is what we have to do. If that means offering someone like Shaka Smart 3 million a year and agreeing to do pretty much anything he wants, then we need to pony up the cash and make it happen.

Step 2: Promote the program and do things to develop a stronger bond between it and the fanbase. Organize a Midnight Madness event and promote the shite out of it. Move the students to better seats and do whatever it takes to develop a more hostile atmosphere in Coleman.

Step 3: Win NCAA tournament games.

If and when we fire Grant these next couple years, I'd welcome Bruce Pearl with open arms. You probably have to cheat to be successful here but so be it. Plus, it'd be nice to actually have a coach with a personality. Grant interacts as little as possible with fans and alumni. Media members think he's a prick from what I can gather. He's created no goodwill for himself on top of losing a lot of games. Bruce Pearl would be out kissing babies and landing studs once his show cause is up

That kind of goes to promoting the program. Any HC at Bama needs to recruit fans just as much as high school basketball players. I think Pearl is out of the same mold as Calipari though (scumbag used car salesman), so I would be very hesitant to get behind that. I'd rather back a dumptruck full of money up to Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens house and refuse to move it until one of them signed a contract, but I do recognize that we need that used car salesman type to garner more fan/administration support for the program. Definitely a shitty situation. I'd rather have a coach like Grant, but I just don't think he is the kind of guy this program needs. I wish our fans didn't suck so hard when it comes to basketball.

I admit, I'm not very basketball knowledgable. In fact, the only basketball I watch is when Bama is playing, but Oh Boy, do I want us to succeed!

I believe we thought we were hiring a top coach on the rise when we hired Coach Grant. And, maybe we did but he sure hasn't proven it. For our basketball program, hiring a young coach on the rise may be the only way we get a top coach.

I'm willing to give Coach Grant a little more time but one thing for damned sure: he needs to be able to fill his scholarship roster by this time. That he can't, concerns me enough that I'd be willing to move on with another promising young coach if one is available at the end of the season.

Grant needs another year to show what he can do with decent depth down-low to go with our guards and to see if he can swallow his pride and replace Pujol with an offensive coordinator.

If we have to replace Grant, Pearl would be at the top of my list ahead of Shaka, about even with Greg Marshall, and behind Brad Stevens (not a chance in Hell with him though). Pearl can promote the program, recruit, and coach very well. Pearl was always my favorite coach in the SEC despite him being the coach of a rival team. He is the type of guy I would have loved to play for. Great coach, great personality, fun-loving, but also not a push-over. Pearl also got a terribly bad wrap for the "rules" he broke and it was only because he lied to the NCAA that any penalty was enforced.

If we can't beat Tulane then Grant shouldn't have a job when 2013 rolls around.

We need to be playing Nellie Ball and we play Stall Ball.

Pretty much how I feel. We are a 9 point favorite as of right now.

@BOLWalsh: Basketball coach Anthony Grant is 13-12 in the month of December since arriving at Alabama
