A trio of freshman relievers — Eicholtz, Geoffery Bramblett and Thomas Burrows — have combined for 14.1 scoreless innings over six combined appearances. That work has some in crucial situations, as they’ve pitched 12.1 of those innings in a tie or one-run game.

Alabama will oppose Southern Miss starter and former UA pitcher Christian Talley (0-1, 9.00 ERA). Talley redshirted as a freshman in 2011 before transferring to Pearl River Community College. This is his first season at USM.

Interesting.

Yea I didn't realize he'd transferred there. I'm excited to see Eicholtz make his first start, hopefully we'll get five to six strong innings out of him.

We stranded two men on base on the sixth.

Guilbeau on to pitch to start the inning. Eicholtz goes give innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits. He walked one and struckout four.

Two scoreless innings for Guilbeau thus far despite three walks. On to the 8th, 1-1.

Guilbeau still hasn't gotten his control down . If he had more command he'd be a very good starter.

You're absolutely right about that.

Two more left in scoring position by Alabama in the eighth as clutch hitting continues to be a problem.

Hit, sac bunt, intentional walk, and another hit gives USM the lead in the 8th.

Southern Miss wins 2-1. We've lost three games, all by a score of 2-1. Offense has been a massive disappointment so far.

That's true, it's about time for the offensive to come along though We aren't waiting on a bunch of freshmen to settle in like we were at this time last year.

Well eventually we're going to start swinging the bats, and when we do I hope you're right that it starts tomorrow.
