Are we pretty much in the tournament?
Posted on 5/10/13 at 11:37 am to TreyAnastasio
SEC yes. NCAA most likely, unless we collapse this weekend. Not much is expected at Vandy next week, and that's ok as long as we don't lose this series. It'll get more dicey if we blow this series against Mizzou.
And just to repost from the bottom of the last page:
Pitching matchups for this weekend vs Missouri:
Friday 6:35
Charley Sullivan (4-4, 3.36 ERA)
Rob Zastryzny (2-9, 3.93 ERA)
Saturday 1:00 (Fox Sports South TV)
Spencer Turnbull (4-2, 3.28 ERA)
Brett Graves (1-8, 3.94)
Sunday 12:30
Justin Kamplain (1-0, 4.68 ERA)
TBA

Held on for 9-7 win in game 1

Yea had to make things interesting after 9-0 lead after seven

Alabama falls 7-3 to Missouri. We had 12 hits but could not get most of them in. I was surprised how quickly Gaspard pulled pitchers today. I thing we had 6 pitchers throw today. Next game is a must win if we want to make a regional.

Just gave up five in the top of the seventh after retiring the first two batters. Down 6-4 and need to rally, can't afford to take a loss here.
Roberts leads off the seventh with a single
Game is on WUOA if anybody is interested and didn't know

Get two on with one out and don't score. On to the eighth still down 6-4. Our bullpen has been great all year, but very poor in this series. Need two shutdown innings from them here to give ourselves a chance.

Bottom of the ninth coming up, 9-1-2 due up trailing 6-4. Should end with an Austen Smith walk off

First and second nobody out. Georgie up, we'll probably have him bunt.
Hopefully mizzou screws up the defense

Fails to get the bunt down, then singles with two strikes. Bases loaded with no out, heart of the order up. Let's get it.

Sac fly, runners at the corners one out, 6-5 score. Can't start an inning after 330 fwiw because of SEC travel rules

Moore singles to tie it, first and second one out. Time for that Smith walk off...
Called it!
7-6 Alabama final. Leggo.

The broadcasts are just some shotty camera work with the radio broadcast dubbed over it, so if you love Chris Stewart it's the best of both worlds.

They did what they needed to do. We should be solidly in a regional after today, no matter what happen at Vanderbilt and the SEC Tournament. A great step forward for this young team. I'm excited about the next couple of years. The stadium updates only make it better.

I live in Auburn so I guess I would not get it. I do like Chris Stewart. I know him and have been able to sit up in the box with him while he does some broadcatsts.
I think getting to a regional this year would be really good for this team. Roll Tide Roll!

I think our lineup has a chance to be really good next year.
LF: Matthew Goodson (RS FR, former 6a hitter of year out of Oxford...great tools, huge upgrade over what we have now)
CF: Georgie (potential all conference)
RF: Moore (potential all conference)
3B: Vincent (only meh spot in the lineup)
SS: White (potential all conference)
2B: Overstreet (potential all conference)
1B: Smith (wildcard, could go in the draft) (potential all conference)
C: Wass (may not be an upgrade from booth defensively- we shall see-, MUCH better with the stick though)
DH: Will Haynie (Freshman out of Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, may challenge Wass at catcher if he can show command of game behind the plate, in which case wade would dh...high level talent)
On top of that, all of our pitching returns with the exception of Sullivan.
Friday: Turnbull
Saturday: Kamplain
Sunday: Castillo
Closer: Greer
Yea I know this season isn't over, but next year is the first time in a while that I am legitimately optimistic about our baseball team.
Especially if we hire a real pitching coach and move Dax back with the hitters.

Yea if we can continue to improve the way we have this year, next year's team should be very solid and able to compete with anybody in the league. Not saying they're going to win the league or anything, because they're very likely not going to, but there hopefully won't be any series like the upcoming Vandy one where we know we don't have much of a chance.

There are four regional projections out today. Two have us as two seeds, two as a three seed. Two have us going to the Virginia regional, one to the South Alabama regional (yes please), and one to the UCLA regional. We appear to be safely in even if we're swept this weekend at Vandy as our RPI will likely improve regardless of what happens. A single win at Vandy or on Tuesday in Hoover would erase any doubt.
