Yeah. Glad for the win. I get Samford is a good SoCon team but we’re going to struggle in SEC play if we’re going cold against Wash St and Samford

There’s a decent chance we don’t win an SEC series. It’s been one step forward and two steps back. I don’t wholly blame Vaughn, but he’s not making chicken salad out of chicken shite either. It’s year 3 in the transfer era. If you don’t have a competitive roster in that scenario you shoulder a lot of the blame.

Not ready to sound the alarm on offense yet. Not uncommon for bats to take a couple weeks to get going.

Not overly optimistic about much though.

I think Fowler will come on despite the slow start. We have some young guys that need some ABs. Other guys need to take advantage of their chances or they will end up getting benched. Osterhouse should be sweating bullets with some of the young talented guys we have waiting for a chance.

Positive side outside of Fay getting hit around a little the pitching has been mostly strong.

Lack of offense is frustrating but hopefully some pieces will be moved around and they will start to come on with the bats. I don’t know what the injury situation is with Mizell who got a lot of ABs last year. I think we were also counting on Devenport, I’d be curious as to his availability moving forward also.

Agreed

JT did great. Banks was steady Eddie to allow us to walk away with the W. We can’t expect our SP to go and be lights out every start when our lineup is this cold. We only had one hit for what 7 innings? We had bases loaded twice with walks|HBP and didn’t capitalize.

Not having Snell in the lineup hurts.

I just read the recap of the game and SU used 5 pitchers who kept us scoreless until the 8th inning. They are really good pitchers, or we have a long way to go hitting the ball.

Yeah, they pretty much bullpen 1 hit us until we he a seeing eye single in the 8th and a homer.

That’s a bit of my concern too is it’s one thing if you get shut out by a staff ace. But this wasn’t that. It’s still early in the year so I’m not full on freaking out but I’m mildly concerned.

It was a beautiful day at the ballpark yesterday in Homewood. Great crowd too. I left a little early so didn’t see the Tide pull it out but enjoyed myself nonetheless.

Flip side to that is our hitters only get to see a pitcher once.

Expect a high dose of that against the Troys, UABs, and Samfords during these midweek games.

Smyers did not make it past the second. We are down 1-0 and I am pretty sure we have 4 k's in 2 innings. Smyers is not SEC ready.

Their starting pitcher is a freshman and looks good.

Their freshman Pitcher can keep Bama at bay then he should be ok for SEC now. But we are not playing all of our starters are we?

Alabama State is a scrappy bunch — well coached and plays decent fundamental baseball.

But yes bats are eventually going to have to wake up.

At least pitching has done its job since the opening day Fay-asco.
