Part of the problem is the CFB product isn't a complete package like the NFL. The NFL is motivated for games to fit their time slot. The conferences are all competing against one another for TV dollars, so they aren't demanding a tight production...they don't care if their games run over and screw another conference.
Of course, the problem is that the SEC basically has morning, afternoon, and primetime on one channel...so we really ought to be maximizing hitting the spots.

They changed some rules to make games shorter and it got better last year but I feel like it's creeping back now.
