How do they determine who plays in the SEC championship game? Could have a three or four way tie for 1st or second place!

Well, ESPN had a schedule release show last night which is why this is relevant. I'm sure us discussing the 2024 schedule won't hurt the players' performance against Michigan.

Two losses, even with a 12 team playoff, is going to put you at risk at being on the outside looking in.

I don't think a two-loss team from the new and improved SEC or Big Ten will be at risk of not making the playoff. I could end up being wrong.

Probably first see if head to head can break the tie. Then I imagine they go to conference strength of schedule rewarding teams whose conference opponents had the higher conference winning percentage. They may even go to final CFP rankings if teams are still tied (to try and protect SEC playoff spots as much as possible).

Four SEC teams with a bye before their Bama game - Georgia, LSU, OU, and Vandy. I've seen worse (think it was 2010 that six teams had their bye before Bama).

Bama also has their bye before two of them (Georgia and LSU), a cupcake before one of them (OU), and then the 4th is Vandy. So the bye week situation (a recurring theme for Bama during Saban's tenure) could be worse for sure.

but I noticed LSU scheduled USC and UCLA. What are they thinking? I respect it but it’s all about self preservation.

Starting in '25 Alabama does the same. FSU and Wisconsin. '26 FSU and WV. '27 WV and Ohio St, etc...

I think that's just the way it'll be from now on.

It will be interesting to see if some of those games get blown up when the SEC moves to a 9-game conference schedule (which I believe will happen in the next few years). Also, it will be interesting to see what becomes of the conference championship games as we move into an expanded playoff scenario.

I want to win #19 first

OK. You do you.

What position do you play, by the way?

I'm only joking. I get the mindset but I don't think it really matters. Heck, the team doesn't even start practicing until Saturday.

I agree. I think it's important for the player's to keep the correct mindset... but we are fans. Part of the enjoyment of being a CFB fan is speculation, analysis, etc.

I don't think our discussion of next season has any impact on the current team's performance

So do we. Talking about next year's schedule and playoff situation doesn't change that.

Bama plays 4 opponents coming off a bye week most notably OK in late November.

Meanwhile back on the farm, some teams ie Auburn do not face a single team after a bye week. Interesting.

I'm curious to see what they look like next year. Their QB and literally their entire starting OL is transferring.
