Down the stretch... that's the second half when we needed them most.

That would be a sight to see.
Hopefully we can see Wrightsell, Mallette, and Holloway together healthy next season.

Can you tell me what happened down the stretch when Mark Sears/Chris Youngblood went to the foul line?
They made them.
I'm talking about the broad trend. Youngblood was over 90% FT shooter until recently when the charity stripe virus got him too. Went 2-4 today but hit the 2 that mattered at the end.
Really, our FT shooting problem is with front court but we're playing more of those guys than last year. Plus, the returning front court players are shooting well off their 2023-2024 averages.
I'm stoked about how we won this road game. Road wins over ranked opponents are hard to come by. However, our free throw shooting as a team is bizarre.

So Philon's minutes were reduced tonight. Jarin and Cliff had 6 points combined. Jarin does not have the body type to mix it up down low and his outside shot is suspect. He missed a few bunnies tonight by not taking it strong to the hoop. Anyone think we will have a new starter in his spot? Youngblood was 7-10 from deep. Grant was 1-5. Not sure Grant or Jarin should be shooting outside shots. My observations from the couch.

I’m not worried about the FT line late in games. It was just bad luck having Grant and Mo D shoot them.
Ideally we want Mark, Biz, or YB shooting in those situations

I just gotta say…Grants defense was BAD last night. Maybe the worst game one of our players have had on that end.

8 games into the Sec schedule and 3 of our 4 Sec road wins are against #8 , #10 and #14 (at the time the games were played). Neutral site win against #6 Houston, and the list goes on.
Over the years watching college basketball the one thing I appreciate is beating anyone on the road is difficult. Beating ranked opponents on the road borders on nearly impossible. This team has a few flaws, but they don't crumble when the opponents make a run and they punch back.
Really big 3 game stretch coming up. All games Bama will be favorites, but all easy to underestimate. Would love to see Bama at 10-1 going into Auburn game and having a possible 1 vs 3 or 1 vs 2 matchup.

Sears had 7 of the teams 14 TO's. He had 3 in the first two minutes of the second half.

Our best scoring lineup is probably Sears - Holloway - Youngblood - Nelson - Omoruyi. That is more akin to the typical 3 guard - 2 forward lineups we've seen in the past. I tend to think a significant reason our FT shooting is down is because of the personnel on the court. We're simply playing more big lineups and that usually means more bad shooters at the stripe. However that group is fairly compromised on defense.
Honestly, I'm interested to see if we play Mo D in Stevenson's place. If we're going to have no floor spacing help from the 3 spot, we might as well get a live wire in all those "hardhat" areas.

He got lost a few times for sure. He did have 3 big blocked shots though. I thought our bigs kept getting pulled out of position and scrambled because Hubbard was effortlessly blowing by anyone we put on him at the perimeter.

We are 103rd in 3pt% since conference play started. Pretty good considering style and quality of competition

We mainly just need Grant to get out of his FT funk since Oats wants him featuring so prominently in late game situations. He calls plays for him and is the go to late game outlet for inbounds passes we can't get to a guard. He was clutch at FT line late in games last year too.
Mo D will end up with FTs since he gets about 80% of any clutch rebounds but you just have to live with that. Cliff seems to shoot 50% early in games but has been pretty solid from the stripe in clutch situations. It's just about 5 times more likely Mo D is at the center of the action.

quote:Yeah this has been big the last few weeks. Seems it has less to do with people improving their shooting percentage and more to do with the right people taking a bigger share of 3s. Holloway, Youngblood, and Sears are taking more relative to the others.

We have a record setting offense and half the posts are bitching about FT shooting.
Two games ago we had a poster calling for Oats to be fired. We got posters calling for more bank shots.
I wonder when some of yall started watching bama basketball.

37% from 3 on the Road this season.
29% at Coleman Coliseum.
That place is a cursed dump and should be replaced

Can we start adding the score to the thread title?
