After the A&M game last year, it should’ve been priority #1 to go and get an elite QB. We knew what we had in Milroe and any hope that Simpson was going to be immediately ready to be SEC-caliber QB was just that…hope.
In the current CFB environment with the portal & NIL, we should’ve been in prime position to get someone. Especially considering our recent track record with QBs.
Maybe with more money than we may have offered we could have pulled off a transfer of someone who didn't move, like a Maye or Van Dyke.
But if you look at the QBs who transferred last year, I don't see anyone that would significantly help us. Sanders is the only good one and he wasn't transferring for NIL. Hartman, Leary, Hudson Card, Walker Howard, Brennan Armstrong, DJ U, Tanner Mordecai, Luke Altmyer... none of them have been really good.

You'll never convince me this wouldn't be a better team right now if we'd gone with Simpson from the beginning.
Is that you Ty Simpson?

Yeah, I don't think he agrees with everything you said.
If it hadn't been a very close decision, he wouldn't have sat Milroe for the USF game to try the other two.
I'm not going to keep arguing with you. They had to make a choice. They made one, and I think it was probably not the right choice. I have a crystal ball too, and mine tells me, if Saban could do it over, he would have told Rees to give Simpson the #1 reps and a lot of individual attention before the season, and he'd be the starter right now.
It doesn't matter now because it's too late to fix it. But, this offense is very limited, and a lot of that is due to Milroe's limitations.

'm almost certain alabama was one of the teams trying to get Drake Maye to transfer.
You have to go back farther than that to when DM was in HS. He was committed to Bama at one point and ended up signing with UNC. Also, fans seem to think Simpson, Milroe, etc. were Tier 1 on the white board for QBS at Bama. They weren't. They were the best available which means Bama offered QBs they thought were better but ended up with getting the best available. And so far, the best available hasn't worked out that well for Bama at the QB position.

The people who are so confident in Ty forget that he came out of a basically 9-month competition third behind not only Milroe but Buchner.
The guy ain't got it. At least not yet.

The guys so confident Milroe is the obvious choice forget he was basically in a 3 way tie with Buchner and Simpson all fall, and got benched for the third game in hopes one of the other guys could do better.
Pretending he was the obvious choice is disingenuous. He barely "beat out" the two guys a lot of you claim would be disasters. And, any improvements he's made have been very slow, and very inconsistent. Would Simpson be such a slow learner? I don't know, but I doubt it.

Yes but, but Milroe is a freak of nature athlete with 4.3 (except it's really 4.64) 40 speed! Haven't you heard?

He most likely runs much faster than a 4.64. Problem he only has straight line speed. He’s not very agile/has little lateral quickness. Also bad field vision

Honestly the most impressive, and surprising thing is that Milroe has been able to pass the ball effectively without being that much of a running threat, and with an average at best run game. Crazy.

Here ya' go:
"Coming out of Obra D. Tompkins High School in Texas, Milroe recorded 4.64 seconds in the 40-yard dash. This was just another example of how he can transform into a reliable and dangerous dual-threat QB, who can make pinpoint passes as well as rush with the ball. Apart from this, he also recorded an impressive 34.80 inches in vertical jump."

That's because he's not that much of a running threat. He has some straight line speed and that's it. Btw, Jalen Hurts is faster.
I wouldn't say chuck it deep with a few big plays mixed with with zero intermediate game is an example of throwing effectively.

Kind of confused by your post here. Right after the part of my post that you put in bold, I said that he isnt much of a running threat, and you replied "that's because he's not much of a running threat" lol

I mean, however you want to spin it dude, but it's been effective enough for him to be top 10 in the nation in QBR.

You have to admit, he has a lot of work to do. Hopefully we see a different Milroe beginning this weekend but he is still making a lot of the same mistakes week after week. Of course the OLine does too and I'm starting to worry that it's a physicality issue and not just technique with at least some of those guys.
Still Milroe needs to get rid of the ball quicker and he needs to step up in the pocket instead of standing there or running to his right. It almost always ends in a negative play.

They honestly might be too big and slow. Every game the announcers talk about how big the OL and act like it’s necessarily a good thing. There’s a probably a reason the NFL OLs sizes they keep getting compared to size wise aren’t this big

Ty Simpson is a backup at 8 SEC schools. An argument could be made for 10 depending on how one feels about Milton and Mertz. Hopefully the young man continues to grow at Alabama. He's a turned ankle away from having to be somebody.

Plenty of evidence Tua was better and yet on the bench he sat until we had a loss and almost gave away a natty.
Almost lost the MSU game that year as well due to Hurts.

That’s nice. We’re talking about Simpson. Saban isn’t infallible but there is nothing to compare Ty Simpson to Tua lol
