Don't know why Bama needs a grad transfer TE, Bama is getting all their TE that contributed back from last year.

Bama might lose Parker to transfer, but they pick up Clark. Neither one would play next year.

OL Randolph was also playing some TE at thr end of the year as a blocking TE, like Brandon Greene did a few years ago.

Bama really could use another freshman TE in this class, mainly for depth in 2021.

2020 seems pretty set at TE.

and that could be why they're looking for another TE.

Surge, it used to be you didn't have to be down to the 85 limit until early August, you could be a little fat in the spring. Is that no longer the case?

"At all times" was a little bit of an overtatement on my part. Im pretty sure it applies during the regular academic year fall, winter & spring terms, but not the summer term -- in order to allow for overlap of both incoming and outgoing players taking summer classes.

Thanks. I did a little digging and found this:

Rusty's Ramblings - Can UGA land another key grad transfer? (Dawgs247 | segment)
quote:

Wrote last week when FSU TE Tre' McKitty hit the transfer portal, I felt certain that UGA would make a run at him. Todd Hartley and James Coley both recruited him at different points with Hartley having a long relationship with him dating back to high school. From everything I continue to hear, Georgia is very much the team to beat here behind the scenes. This coming from multiple sources and one very close to FSU circles.

Couple of other things I have confirmed in the last few days, he will have to wait until May to attend a school of his choice. He will graduate in three years in college as a true junior. Am told the kid is very close to getting his pilot's license as a hobby. McKitty is a very sharp young man and that's another reason he is so coveted by schools. . .

It's looking like we might only add three more signees -- Burroughs and Baker, assuming they take care of business academically, along with Rakestraw. I'd love to get Collins too, but it doesnt appear likely.

Yea, with the numbers being tight, I can see us not taking as many as we thought

Since the "numbers crunch" issue in this cycle is the 85 limit, there is an upside -- if we only add those three we'd end up with a couple of 2020's annual 25 limit spots being unused, which we could use later if we need to add transfers or save them to use for 2021 early enrollees, in addition to our regular 25 2021 spots.

We really don't have to get one. Instead, just focus on further developing Forristall (blocking ability) Tennison, Billingsley, Latu and Parker by the end of fall camp and then get the younger ones some game experience in mop up duty and against cupcakes. And focus on developing Clark when he's rehabbed well enough to work out. And then land 1-2 2021 TEs. I dont think adding another TE in the 2020 cycle is anywhere close to as urgent as many have come to believe. I think the notion that we urgently need to add one just kinda sprouted out of targeting and missing on highly ranked TEs Gilbert and Washington and began to grow.

As long as Rakestraw is one, I am fine with this.

The whole freak out about generally getting a tight end never made sense to me.

Losing Gilbert sucked because he is an absolute specimen (and double suck he went to LSU). Washington would have been nice but whatever there. In terms of some sort of frantic need for one.....I don't get it.

I agree. Apparently so do some others and that's why there's the running joke "But can he play TE?" posted for just about every recruit on BOL.

I still can’t figure out how UGA managed to pull Washington and two big time receivers. It’s not like they made a change and hired someone like Joe Brady. What have they been telling these kids?

Me too, bro. We're basically trading landing a few more HS kids for returning Smitty, Leatherwood, Moses and McMillon. I'll gladly make that trade. And we can use the leftover signing spots to take extra recruits in the next cycle to make up for taking less in this cycle.
