LINK ]Bama overtakes LSU for No. 1 class (BOL)

After a few weeks away, Alabama is back atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, overtaking LSU for the No. 1 spot on Thursday night. The change comes as four-star defensive tackle LINK ]Jaquelin Roy decommitted from the Tigers after joining their class back in September, which he announced via Twitter:
"I would like to start off by saying thank you to the LSU staff for all the support and treating me like family. I am forever grateful for the relationships I built with them. After much thought and consideration I have made the decision to decommit. My recruitment is officially back open. I'll be moving on from here. I'll also like to thank the Tiger fans for believing me and making me feel like family. Please respect my decision."
LSU’s class went from No. 1 to No. 2 with 10 pledges aboard. Bama has 11 commitments currently, good for a point total of 214.28.
Not only did the Crimson Tide take back the top spot in the rankings, Nick Saban and staff are expected to play host to Roy on Saturday for Junior Day.
The Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab product earned an offer from the Tide on National Signing Day last month and has long been interested in the program.

BamaOnLine caught up with the Top247 prospect at the National Combine in January when he was still a member of LSU’s class:
Jaquelin Roy, the nation’s No. 15 (No. 10 now) defensive tackle in 2020, says he’s firm with LSU, but Alabama could make it hard for him if he decides to take a visit to Tuscaloosa. He says it’s tough to say no when they put the championship rings out on the table.
Alabama has had success recruiting some of the top prospects in Louisiana in recent cycles, particularly the Baton Rouge area. The Tide has signed guys like Tim Williams, Chris Allen, Dylan Moses, and Christian Harris out of the Tigers’ back yard. Williams and Harris both attended University Lab. Moses attended University Lab before finishing his high school career at IMG Academy.
Outside of Baton Rouge, UA has gone into the Bayou State and signed big-time Tiger targets like Ishmael Sopsher, Phidarian Mathis and DeVonta Smith.
At 6-foot-3.5, 284 pounds, Roy is rated the No. 10 defensive tackle and the No. 104 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
After signing undoubtedly the nation’s best defensive line class in 2019 (arguably best-ever on paper), the Tide is already off to a strong start in 2020 with commitments from four-star defensive linemen Jayson Jones and Jah-Marien Latham. Bama also has a commitment from Chris Braswell, the No. 1 weak-side defensive end in America, who projects to play jack linebacker in Tuscaloosa.
Eta: Jaquelin Roy didn't visit Bama after all.

Would love to sign this kid just for the LSU melt.

A lot will happen between now and signing day but I told some people Jaquelin Roy won't sign with LSU. Very few kids who go to high school on LSU's campus want to stay on the same campus for college. LSU football has a hard time pulling kids from U High. I know LSU got Brossette and the Brumfield kid from U High but recently U High has put out some studs and none of them have went to LSU.

So with Tua likely going pro after this season, and then 3 unproven guys behind him who all appear solid (but perhaps not super-star material) it sure would be nice to sign an elite 5-star level QB this season. Any realistic chances for that?

Williams really likes Coach Scott, who took over for Key as his primary recruiter, and Saban too. He's been actively recruiting on twitter and is visiting Saturday for Junior Day to get to know the new staff better and to help recruit.

Roydell is a straight up beast! There’s about a top 6 maybe 7 elite backs this year he’s so undervalued at 15 . His production and his film proves it . He should move up big as his season goes forward. Glad he’s locked in.

Williams/Tyree RB Class would be a great follow up on Sanders/Robinson.
Roydell gets so much momentum running, he almost just pinballs off defenders and keeps going.
