Jordan Banks
Top contenders: Alabama, Oklahoma, Washington, Ohio State
Recruiting outlook: With a few visits coming up during the season, don’t expect Banks to come to a decision in the next month or so. Alabama holds the edge at this point and Oklahoma has already gotten him on campus for an official visit. Washington and Alabama will get him for official visits during the season and they should help bring some clarity to Banks’ recruitment.
Farrell’s take: It's hard to bet against Alabama for this one as the Tide have the edge and I think he ends up in Nick Saban’s class. This is far from over, but when ‘Bama leads it’s hard to make up ground.

2. TOP 10 COMMITS IN THE 2021 CLASS
As you can see above, it’s never too early to start tracking the 2021 class as prospects are committing at a solid rate. Here are my top 10 commitments for the 2021 class so far…
QB Brock Vandagriff, Oklahoma – It doesn’t get much bigger than going into SEC country and pulling out the top quarterback and No. 1 player in the country. The Sooners are flexing their muscles.
DE Jack Sawyer, Ohio State – One of the most talented defensive ends at this stage of his development in Rivals.com Ohio state history, Sawyer brings athleticism and a great motor to the table.
QB Kyle McCord, Ohio State – I love McCord’s arm strength and the way he handles himself in the pocket and in a few years he could be a star.
OT Blake Fisher, Notre Dame – This commit speaks to the ability of Notre Dame to produce offensive linemen in recent years and lure them from anywhere, especially right up the road.
QB Sam Huard, Washington – Another very talented quarterback commitment for Washington, Huard is a lefty with excellent potential and accuracy.
QB J.J. McCarthy, Michigan – He struggled a bit at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas but he has the tools to be very good, he just needs to get bigger.
ATH Seven McGee, Oregon – An elite athlete, he can do many things at the college level and is the type of player Pac-12 teams like Oregon need to attract.
WR Dont’e Thornton Jr., Penn State – A huge wide receiver for a 2021, he will be a force to be reckoned with as he gets stronger and even faster.
WR Deion Smith, Mississippi State – This is a huge in-state get early for the Bulldogs and a kid with size but also excellent body control and agility.
CB Latrell McCutchin, Alabama – I love this kid and think he is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. He could be a prospect who pushes for five-stars before too long.

3. RANDOM RECRUITING THOUGHTS
Here are some random recruiting thoughts…
... If Texas can close on running back Bijan Robinson after Ohio State took what was considered a very strong lead it will be a major get for Tom Herman and company. It appears now that Robinson is leaning toward Texas and the Longhorns are already on fire for 2021. They could be taking the next step in recruiting which is saying something after a great finish last year.
... It appears Florida State is going to land Florida all-purpose back Jaylan Knighton who was the other running back Ohio State wanted in this class. If the Seminoles land Knighton that will be huge because he can be used as a running back or slot receiver and has elite speed. What will Ohio State do next if both Knighton and Robinson head elsewhere? Jalen Berger from New Jersey will be one to keep an eye on.
... Georgia Tech is expected to keep the momentum going for 2020 with a commitment from Florida wide receiver Bryce Gowdy who is one of the true sleepers in this class. How can a Rivals250 talent be a sleeper? With so many talented receivers in this class Gowdy gets overlooked but I liked him a lot at the Five-Star Challenge and think he can be an excellent No. 1 for Georgia Tech rather than a No. 2 or 3 elsewhere.
... The more he visits Texas A&M the more I think the Aggies will be in the very final mix for running back Zachary Evans. Alabama would probably be the pick now or perhaps LSU but Jimbo Fisher is a top-five recruiter as a head coach in college football and will make this interesting.
... This may sound crazy but I’d love to see Noah Sewell play running back in college. I think he’s be a star and could play at 260 or so running in the 4.5 range. Talk about a human bowling ball. Maybe a program in the Pac-12 will give him a chance to be Myles Jack? Behind the right offensive line he’d be unstoppable.

Tua enrolled early and takes summer classes too, so it's pretty likely he's on track to graduate in December.
Just between us, I'm hearing he's probably coming to LSU as a grad transfer. Can't confirm yet, though, but I've definitely got my ear to the ground on this one.

Just between us, I'm hearing that despite the irresistible attraction of LSU's fancy new locker room, Tua is just too scared of the competition for next year's starting QB job at LSU and will probably just settle for a $MM NFL contract. Can't confirm yet though, so please let us know what else you hear from the ground.

Regarding Justin Flowe: I know he recently visited Clemson and subsequently they got 7 CBs for him. That seems like a lot for just a visit, has anyone heard if he gave them a silent commit or something of that nature?
Has he visited Bama yet, and if not does he have plans to do so? I can't imagine how a LB of his caliber could look at Bama and see 1) the glaring hole at ILB on our depth chart and 2) the history of elite linebackers that we have produced and put into the NFL as high draft picks, and not want in on that. I honestly can only think of ONE clemson linebacker in the NFL, Stephone Anthony, and let me tell you.. He was GOD AWFUL for the Saints.. Bust. Tony Steward (Former 5*) went in the 6th round... Bust.
I get that there are many factors in choosing a school you want to attend for 3/4 years. I've done it, you've done it, for the most part we all have. I don't get worked up when a kid chooses one school vs. the other, but I simply cannot wrap my head around how Justin Flowe's top schools are Clemson, Oregon and USC. Especially when you have schools like Alabama and LSU recruiting you who pump out linebackers in the NFL draft at a consistently high rate.
To me, and this might be apples to oranges, but it would be like a kid graduating top of their class and wanting to be a business major, and they get accepted to the Wharton School of Business and Johns Hopkins (known for their medical program), and they choose to go to the latter.
ETA didn't realize how long this post was, keyboard got away from me lol.
TL;DR Justin Flowe's top schools are very questionable - Clemson included.

Yep. I'm hearing the same; he's scared to compete with Lia and is intimidated by the 2020 LSU QB room. I wonder if we have the same source here.
Anyway, it's probably a coin flip between LSU and the NFL right now.

I wanted this kid at UA coming out of HS. I would not say he was bust due to lack of talent or development. He was on the field as a true freshman for Clemson until he blew out his knee. He stayed hampered with injuries while in college. Then shortly after getting drafted by the Bills his fiance died from cancer and IIRC he was injured his again with the Bills. Lot of bad luck and has seem to deal with better then many.

Predictions on the top five uncommitted 2020 safeties
quote:
Xavion Alford
Top contenders: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M
Recruiting outlook: A commitment from Alford isn’t far off and it seems like Alabama is the leader right now. He took a lot of visits this summer and made it on campus at each of these schools. Alford likes that Auburn needs defensive backs and he has a really good relationship with defensive backs coach Torrian Gray at Florida. Texas is also pushing for Alford but he has a lot of connections to Texas A&M. Still, Alabama seems to hold a lead for Alford and the Tide have a great chance of signing him.
Farrell’s take: Alford could choose one of many schools, and don’t count out teams like A&M, Florida and Auburn. But if Alabama wants him I think Alabama gets him. The Tide should close the deal sooner than later.

Take Two: Can Gators flip Tide commit Timothy Smith?
quote:
THE STORYLINE
Alabama has consistently dipped into the state of Florida for some of its best prospects, and the Crimson Tide had success again in recent days when four-star defensive tackle Timothy Smith picked Alabama over Florida, Georgia and others.
It was another massive pledge for the Crimson Tide because the Sebastian (Fla.) Sebastian River standout is ranked as the fifth-best defensive tackle in the class and he’s another Rivals100 prospect who is leaving the state.
But this recruitment might not be over, because days after committing to Alabama, Smith showed up at Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp and he also worked out in front of the coaches.
The four-star is a top target for coach Dan Mullen and his staff, and Smith was in Gainesville spending time with four-star DE commit Gervon Dexter.
Is Smith locked up for Alabama? Or do the Gators have a legitimate chance at flipping him, especially after his recent visit back to campus?
FIRST TAKE: COREY BENDER, GATORSTERRITORY.COM
“Even though Smith committed to the Crimson Tide just days prior, the plan all along was to attend Friday Night Lights with Dexter. It was viewed as more of a wait-and-see deal, but not only did Smith show up in Gainesville he also camped and was the highest-ranked prospect to do so.
“The Gators are still under consideration here, despite Smith being verbally committed to another SEC school. He is arguably UF's top target along the defensive line, and Mullen and defensive line coach David Turner have been pushing the right buttons with Smith's family as well.
"UF has been selective along the defensive line in recent months, and much of that has to do with the staff prioritizing Smith. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take an official visit to Gainesville before it's all said and done. There is no doubting Smith's pledge to Alabama, but multiple Florida coaches and commits are making a strong push and they certainly showed that with all of the attention Smith received last Friday. Smith remains the Gators' top target along the defensive line, and that hasn't changed. Mutual interest is fairly high as well.”
SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM
“I don’t think it’s over. Alabama has a great tradition of producing defensive linemen and putting defensive linemen and defensive tackles in the NFL. The Tide are going to compete for national championships. But I think he’s going to look around and he’s going to take visits.
“Florida would definitely be one of those teams that has a chance. There were early rumors that Clemson was going to be the school for him. I’m not sure it's as heavily involved. In the end, he’ll probably stick with Alabama because Alabama doesn’t really lose that many kids when they’re committed. But Florida could make this very, very interesting.”

Could be a big factor in Flowe’s decision and part of the reason he seems so hot for Clemson: the coaches that put all those Bama ILBs in the pros and developed them are gone. And the jury is definitely still out on the current coach for that position.

Alabama adds former Florida State OL, Pac-12 WR to roster
By Charlie Potter BamaOnline
By Charlie Potter BamaOnline
quote:
Alabama updated its online roster ahead of preseason camp, and there were a few additions.
Former Florida State offensive lineman Landon Dickerson is now on the roster. Graduating from FSU, Dickerson will be immediately eligible. He is listed at 6-foot-6, 308 pounds and will wear No. 69.
A former 5-star recruit, according to 247Sports, Dickerson started at right guard for the Seminoles in 2016 as a true freshman but injured his ACL after making seven starts, missing the remainder of that season. Dickerson returned to the field in 2017, but injuries plagued him once again, forcing him to miss the last nine games of the season. He played in two games during the 2018 season before missing the rest of the season with an injury and ultimately redshirting.
Former Pac-12 wide receiver Drew Kobayashi was also added as a walk-on.
This is noteworthy because Kobayashi attended the same high school in Hawaii as current Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Kobayashi recorded 34 receptions for 695 yards and four touchdowns as a senior at St. Louis High School with Tagovailoa as his quarterback.
A former 3-star recruit, Kobayashi signed with California in 2016 but left the team in 2017 and went to Washington State as a walk-on. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wideout then left WSU back in May.
Alabama also added a couple of in-state players to the roster as walk-ons in sophomore defensive lineman Landon Bothwell (Oneonta) and senior receiver Joshua Lanier (Tuscaloosa Academy).
As far as number changes, there was only one with Cameron Latu changing from No. 20 to No. 81. Listed as a tight end Latu is expected to compete and contribute at a position with little depth.
On Thursday, BamaOnLine noted the removal of linebacker Eyabi Anoma.
Alabama will hold its first practice of the preseason later this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT.
