I still think the final product of this team, once they all play together and keep figuring things out, has the potential to be sky high.

A lottery PG in Colin, a great slasher in Dazon, a great outside shooter in Petty and 3 jack of all trade types in Key, Norris and Jones. If we can get decent production down low (which is up in the air right now), this team still has really good potential.

Some interesting Tempo stats. Avery kept his promise about the style he wanted to play once he got his players in here

Adj. Tempo National Rank
2016 : #322
2017 : #302
2018 : #144

Average Poss. Length National Rank
2016 : #320
2017 : #301
2018 : #20

Effective FG% National Rank
2016 : #188
2017 : #268
2018 : #17

Also - we need to raze Coleman Coliseum for a lot of reasons, but this may be the biggest

FT% National Rank
2016 - #332 (64.3%)
2017 - #320 (65.3%)
2018 - #325 (63.0%)

Coach Bryant quote about Stars...Hope Avery can mold them into a good team.....we'll see

“People who are in it for their own good are individualists. They don’t share the same heartbeat that makes a team so great. A great unit, whether it be football or any organization, shares the same heartbeat.”

I haven't turned on the kid. I am worried that's all. He's been "the man" for several years at high school. Now he's one among several alpha dogs on a team. I didn't watch many of his games in High School but I can't imagine he got benched often. So this is something new to him. How he responds will mean a lot for his future AND the future of this team.

He also needs to come to terms with his play being good... for a freshman. You have to earn the right to be forgiven _ 2nd chance after a mistake or poor play. Petty isn't close to there yet

If you take out the AL A&M game, Petty's stats could be better. He is a volume 3FG shooter with a subpar 3FG% and turnover prone

PPG- 9.3
RPG- 2.5
APG- 2.4
TO/g- 2.4
3FG% - 30%
3FGA / FGA- 75.7%

Even if you remove the LaTech injury game, it isn't much better

Petty has a ton of talent/potential and can definitely tap into it. He just has to buy in, work hard and allow improvement to happen.

Good lord it's like losing the iron Bowl has brought out chicken littles on this side. Now we re gonna make Ingram a glutton for punishment I see...When he helped carry us last night. This is a solid team that can be a second weekend team in March if they continue to progress. They are mentally tough, play thru mistakes , and make winning plays against experienced veteran teams so far. Avery knew exactly what he was doing and these guys are gonna be battle tested by conference play. The freshman are gonna make mistakes that are mind numbing but they're also making clutch plays that we wouldn't have made in the past. Petty will be fine and bounce back...he was just frustrated at himself.

If opponents shoot FTs poorly in Coleman and/or we shoot them much better on the road then I'll buy the diesel for the bulldozer.

I suspect, however, the truth is that we are just terrible at them. La Tech was far too close at the end in large part because we missed the front end of EVERY SINGLE one and one we got in the first half.

Ive always wondered if there was something wrong with our rims. Like are they stiffer or something cause a lot of teams dont shoot well in Coleman.

attendance was just over 12k last night (tickets sold)

likely won't see a smaller crowd from here out

be excited folks. We are going to lose some games. It's ok.

I've thought that a few times myself. Maybe we need to back off a couple turns on the spring bolts?

the backdrop at coleman is not far away which is usually good for shooters. Feels like opposing players do well when they visit.

It's not Coleman.

I was just looking for an excuse to bulldoze Coleman.

The crowd looked and sounded great on TV last night. Even the Tide Pride seats were filled!
