Every team in the league has bad losses on their resume. It's basketball. It's rare for a team to play at its full potential every game.
Even in a surging SEC the losses to Vandy, Ole Miss and at Georgia look really bad. Two blowouts in that bunch to teams who are a combined 38-45 and 16-29 in the SEC. The bottom three in the SEC got a quarter of their wins against Alabama.
UCF is 17-10 and fifth in the American. Texas is 16-12 and seventh in the Big 12. They're tied for 7th in the Big 12 with Oklahoma, who is 1-6 since we beat them. Minnesota, sure we get a pass for being short handed, but they were killing us at the time of the ejections. They're 15-15 and 11th in the Big 10.
Our best wins are Auburn, Tennessee and Rhode Island. Everyone else (aTm, Oklahoma and Florida to an extent) fell off significantly after we beat them.

Honestly this season reminds me of every season under Gottfried, minus 2002. 17-20 wins and the base is satisfied with making the tournament.
I thought we fired him because we believed we were better than that.

If only that were the case.

I agree some of our losses are really bad. I'm saying most teams in the league have bad losses as well. Auburn just got nearly run out of the gym by a bad South Carolina team. Tennessee looked incompetent in their game against us, and while it's not really a bad loss, the way they lost is similar to us last night.
Expecting us to play to our fullest potential every night is unrealistic. Expecting us to play better than we did last night isn't though. In the end though, last night's will just be a bad loss in our eyes because of the way we lost. It won't matter much to the selection committee unless we just tank the rest of our games in similar fashion. Which I realize is entirely possible, but I wouldn't expect it.

What should we expect? We haven't won a tournament game since '06. The kids we're recruiting can't remember seeing Alabama win a tournament game.

As an Alabama basketball fan that remembers the early 2000's, we improved. Getting to #1 in 2001 was progress for the program, even if it only lasted a week. Winning the SEC in 2002 was progress, even if we got eliminated in the second round. That built up and led to the 2004 team being able to put a run together based on the other experience they had gained. From 2002 to 2004, we won four NCAA tournament games. In 2006 we won our opening round game and were damn close to upsetting UCLA (runner up) and we did beat eventual champ Florida in Tuscaloosa.
Looking back if the expectation and standard we're striving for is just to get in then we should've never gotten rid of Gottfried, and I say this as a fan who showed up to games with posters demanding he be fired up until the point that he was fired.

We’re 17-11 with plenty of bad losses. I don’t know
The only losses we've had out of the top 70 RPI are Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Minnesota.
Minnesota was a completely different team with Lynch and we finished the final 10 minutes 3v5. The committee will throw that loss out at worst, and may even see the positive side of including a player who can score 40 points (18 of which came in 10 minutes while pretty much going 1v5 on offense).
Vanderbilt is actually a solid team and has just had trouble finishing games (zero losses outside of RPI top 80). Just look at their results against the top 30 RPI teams. They won against RPI 21 and 30. They've lost on the road against RPI 11 and 16 by a combined 7 points (3.5 pt avg). Their average point differential at home versus top 30 RPI (including RPI 11, 16, 21, 22 and 30) is -2.8 ppg with 2 wins (by an average of 2 ppg) and 3 losses (by an average of 6 ppg).
Ole Miss is probably the worst loss, but like Vandy haven't had any bad RPI losses (no losses outside top 100 and only 1 loss outside of the top 75).
And both of those last 2 losses came on the road in the 2 arenas we've historically struggled (and been screwed over) the most in. Not to mention 2 of those losses came in the first half of the season and the other not long after the halfway mark (for those that say there is no improvement).
Last night was frustrating, no doubt, but it's still not a bad loss to have on the resume. Regardless of who AU was missing, they're still having a fantastic season. It sucks to admit, but it's true. We beat them at home without our best player and Hall coming immediately off of a wrist surgery, and they beat us without their rim protector and one of their best players. Not a bad split to have given their success this season.

Gottfried had some other "issues" going on along with his teams' performances.

Still anticipating news on what they're going to do with Coleman Coliseum. 'Zona underwent more than $100 million in construction when Byrne was there.

Is there some division from the boosters regarding new arena vs Coleman renovation?
Got to imagine everyone agrees something needs to be done. Plans can stall out though if the support isn't unified though

As a Zona fan, I think Bryne is a great AD and ya'll are lucky to have him. That said, he was fortunate on timing for facilities upgrades. Programs were both due for new facilities + performing at a high level generating program interest.

Ok well here’s a little good news to brighten everyone’s day:
Lunardi has us as an 8 seed in this mornings bracket.
The Arkansas game is officially a sellout (5th of the year) and we all know how bad Arky is on the road. Win that one and we go into the next home game on Senior night against Florida. Win those 2 like we should and we’re in the tourney

I don’t see how anyone can defend Coleman at this point. It’s not the cause of all of our problems but it’s certainly not adding tons of value.

Hunter Johnson mentioned on Twitter recently that Coleman is about to get an upgrade that will put it in the top five arenas in the SEC. His mom works in the athletic department so he's usually pretty reliable.
There's nothing wrong with Coleman from the outside, IMO. Spend a good amount to completely overhaul the inside and I'll be happy. They did it with Sewell Thomas and it completely changed the stadium. You'd have no idea they gutted a dated stadium.

I'd take Auburn Arena over Coleman in a heartbeat.
For sure. And I'd take Ole Miss's over both. That place is a beautiful facility, though we'd probably need one a little bigger in capacity.
I have a soft spot for Coleman because I grew up going to almost every game there through most of the 80's, but it's time for a change.
