Both us and Florida would have six conference losses and we'd have beaten them head-to-head.
Are we talking SEC Tournament or NCAA Tournament? I was thinking we were talking NCAAT.

Yeah, I meant NCAA Tournament.
My bad, I should’ve clarified better.

My question is , a psycho walked into a school and shot up alot of people and the FBI is worried about shoe companies? Serious lack of priorities if that's the case.

What?
He's referencing the Florida school shooting. It's actually a valid point. FBI was tipped off on the kid a year ago after a YouTube video claiming he was going to be a professional school shooter and several references to kids at the school reporting that he said he was going to bring his guns to school one day. Big frick up on their end. Makes it sound worse when you see that these coaches are the ones they're focused on.

Better yet, despite the kid posting all this under his real name, the FBI claimed they couldn't identify who he was. WTF??

No it’s not.
The FBI is not a small entity.
You guys are acting like the entire Bureau stopped every other single thing they were working on to snoop around college basketball.
The group of people within the FBI that are/were working counter-terrorism in Florida, didn’t stop doing that to listen to wiretaps of Bill Self.

Wow...Pete Thamel just said on Finebaum that he would be stunned if Pearl is at Auburn next year.

I'm kind of confused, are you suggesting that the FBI just ignored the threat because they were too busy with the NCAA investigation?
I doubt the white collar crimes division guys who are handling this investigation are also the guys who deal with violent threats like what happened in FL

This is as bad as his initial statement.
The FBI has 56 field offices with over 13,000 agents. A single white collar crime investigation being run out of a federal district in New York that happens to involve college basketball might be news to the people here and might make a splash on ESPN, but it isn't anything more than just another day at the office to that agency. It certainly isn't "the ones they're focused on."
As far as the tip about the kid, how many of those do you suppose they get in a day? Ten, twenty, a hundred? This feeding frenzy about that tip to the feds is way beyond ridiculous when you consider that the FBI generally isn't a first responder agency and yet they're supposed to somehow identify this kid out of the thousands they see as the one that would go through with a threat - but the local LE agency who had been called to his home nearly 40 times - apparently never saw fit to charge him, seek involuntarily commitment, or do anything else to show they had major concerns about his risk to public safety?
I'm happy to criticize the FBI. They're really, really, good at letting state and local entities do a lot of leg work and then show up at the press conference to steal the spotlight but to flat out say that a 2 year old public corruption investigation in New York kept them identifying a potential mass murderer in south Florida isn't just silly, it is downright embarrassing.

Dammit Gene, I typed a long missive only to hit post and see you'd said the same thing in a couple of sentences.

I'm going to need someone with credibility to say this before I get worried. I'd be more worried if the National Enquirer was saying it than Pete Thamel

He also said the Cam Newton investigation would be the most explosive case in the history of college football.
Despite what he'd like people to believe, Pete's accuracy and credibility aren't terribly good.

Thamel is really going out on a limb too. He is feeding the mob exactly what they expect, just like he did during Cam newton investigation
Thamel - "You know that guy who has a NCAA showcause, whose program is involved w FBI and school already was rumored close to firing?"
Pawl - "Ya, I know Brucey"
Thamel - "I'm going out on a limb and saying he won't be coaching at Auburn.... wait I'll be surprised if he is, so I have an out if I'm wrong."

The actual quote
"I would be stunned if Bruce Pearl is the Auburn coach next year.... I can't wrap my mind around him being back just using common sense"
The "I don't actually know anything, but it is a safe bet and won't make me look bad if I'm wrong" comment

Cam Newton case could have been. Everyone pretty much thought they had da barn dead in their sights but they managed to figure out a way to sweep it under the rung. Said: daddy knew about it but Scam didn't so they didn't break a rule. Who would have thunk it? Certainly no one outside of da barn believed it.

No, it couldn't. Even if they'd found $180k stuffed in Cecil's mattress it wouldn't have been "the most explosive" in the history of the sport.
Hell, there were way more programs and a whole lot more money involved in the Albert Means case a decade before anyone had ever heard of Cam Newton.
Again, Thamel has a history of engaging in sensationalism on the off chance he will turn out to be right one day. By no means is he the only sports reporter that does it, but he seems to think (or at least give off the impression that he thinks) he is better or different from the rest when the truth is you're just as apt to get better information from TMZ.

The only thing I'm really worried about is what Chuck Person will end up saying/doing. After being monitored for months + wire taps etc though, the FBI never mentioned anything about pay for play recruiting violations in his set of charges
What is blowing up in the news right now is the investigation into Adidas + Nike pay for play scheme. None of the people involved in that were mentioned in the Chuck Person criminal complaint + Auburn is a UA school so no reason to think Adidas/Nike was trying to hook us up

They said Cecil talked to Miss St boosters who the NCAA said fit the criteria to be an "agent".

I wish this story had broken after the season. The talk is going to dominate the end of the year and the tourney. Meh.
