I'm not sure if he'll be a first team all conference pick. I thought they'd be a better team too.
He's 9th in scoring and leads the league in assists by a wide margin, so I think he should be first team, but if not it's because he's on a bad team. It's also worth noting that his usage percentage is actually only up 2% from his last year with us.

Yeah they have a pretty good set of guards it seems.
After this talk, I'm fully ready to lose first round next year to a 14 seed Samford team. BA 5/5 from 3 and Justin Coleman scoring 35+.

I'd definitely put Pollard ahead and Kessens and probably Coleman. He turned in to a very solid post player at Houston. Averaged 14 and 6 his senior year. I know that is comparable to Kessens' 13 and 9 but I just can't imagine Kessens playing over Pollard had they both been at Alabama the same time.

Jimmie had that hook shot he could get to fall occasionally. He was bad on offense for sure, but he was better than Gueye.
Jimmie also had the several minute span @Florida in Avery's first year where he exploded out of nowhere after Retin fouled out. It was unbelievable.

Taylor wasn't a bad post scorer when he got the ball and was never Gueye bad.
Taylor (Career): 20 mpg, 4.7 PPG, 59% from the field
Gueye (Career): 15 mpg, 1.4 ppg, 37% from the field.

Engstrom just did such a terrible job of going up with the ball. A guy that size shouldn't get the ball stripped or have his shot blocked by guards or undersized forwards half as much as he did. He was better with screens and not traveling/throwing his shoulder into defenders than Gueye, but in terms of post scoring he was every bit as bad. Overall, a truly regrettable period in our history given the number of great post players we have had in the past.

I feel like Kessens was a decent player by the end of the year. Not a starter, but a solid contributor off the bench. He was terrible at the start of the year, but figured out his role and developed as the season went on.

I guess you could argue for Pollard over Kessens, but that statline doesn't really touch Coleman's efficient 14 ppg and 6 apg, and he still has a season to go. It's easy for a post player to get 6 rebounds per game, it's actually pretty bad that he averaged a hair less than that in 30 MPG. But averaging 6 assists is very tough at the college level.
Stats show Kessens as the soundly better player (3 more rebounds in same minutes, 9% higher FG%, etc.) But while the stats don't show it, I do have a hard time seeing how Pollard could have been worse defensively. Pollard was very bad here after high expectations which probably taints my view of him, but I'd still choose Kessens over him. Not that either were ideal here.

why hasn't Shelton State's Madonna Thompson been offered a big time job
I get the feeling Thompson is quite happy where she is, considering she's been in Tuscaloosa at Shelton for 20 years. I'd imagine she certainly wouldn't turn down her alma mater if we asked, but for an SEC program, unless we didn't really have any good candidates, it would be a big stretch for us to hire a community college coach.
Thompson would be a great hire if an assistant position ever came open, but, again, she's a head coach at a program she's built for over a decade, why leave for an assistant job?

If I ranked him behind King and Lacey among the Grant/Johnson transfers the list would still look like:
1. King (Johnson)
2. Lacey (Grant)
You'd put King > Lacey? Like in terms of quality of player?
King is doing great at MTSU, he clearly is a SEC caliber player. That said, he isn't Trevor Lacey good

Gene,
You may have missed my earlier question or not know but I asked earlier in the thread if you knew of anywhere that showed SEC in-conference SOS for this year?
I'd be interested to see how they differ.

The Conf SOS should be based on games played, not complete conf schedule. Also, keep in mind that given the round robin nature, the "better" teams should have much lower SOS by default
Alabama is #9 in In-Conf SOS based on KenPom (complete below)
