it was discussed a few pages ago but I am pretty confident in saying that AU has bypassed Bama as the #1 softball program in the state.

No doubt Auburn has 1 of the top coaches in the country.

Also I think building Auburn's program, or at least bringing in top talent to Auburn was much easier than the job Coach Murphy had.

Murphy built Bama when SEC softball was pretty much Tennessee. Myers had a much easier job selling coming to the SEC to the top players around the country now that the SEC is the softball conference.

There are only a handful coaches across the country that have the success that Murphy has had or that can expect to continue that success. Auburn went and got one of those coaches.

Bama is not going to win the WCWS every year, but we have been a constant threat to win it for several years. Auburn is also now joining that same group. Some yeas they will be better than us, some years we will be better than them.

To paraphrase Robin Williams: (Good Will Hunting)

"I'm going to let you in on a little secret, this coach is not perfect and neither is the coach at Auburn. But the question is, is our coach the perfect coach for us?"

I think Murphy has earned the chance to be given a "pass" if Auburn is better than us some years and even if they win the championship.

With any luck being the "hot new thing" will run it's course quickly. Our ladies need to nip this in the bud next year, too much is at stake.

Murph built everything we see, he's earned the right to just make the Super Regionals for the rest of his life...... which actually kind of worries me.

I think Coach Murphy might be the Bobby Cox of woman's softball. Auburn has been to two WCWS and are in the finals. I took Bama 8 tries to make it to the finals.
Ummm...you do realize that Cox only had 1 title, also?

At this point, I agree. However, this will prove to be the real test of Murphy's legacy. To get to the top, get knocked back, and still have the ability to go out and take it back would be monumental to his career.
Regardless, I do agree that he has earned a ton of opportunities to go back and reclaim it.

Yeah, Cox and the Braves went to the playoffs 14 years in a row and went to the World Series 5 times and only has 1 title. He had some great teams that didn't win it all, just like Murphy.

I still think the 2010 Bama softball team was Murphy best overall team.

I'm pulling for OU, but honestly don't care who wins. I've watched more hockey than softball.

I think Auburn has a really good team and I had them winning the tournament before the WCWS started. That said, OU is going to win it tonight. 31 straight wins and they're playing 20 minutes from Norman.

OU has made the finals three times since 2012. I understand having a good program, but they really benefit from the WCWS being so close. They can sleep in their own beds and treat it like a home game.

On the topic of Bama softball, Murphy has to gain more power hitters instead of the slappers that swing away at anything and everything. Meyers has a bunch of HR hitters throughout his lineup. Aside from Lafaele, we didn't have much pop in the lineup.

Leona graduates this year doesn't she? So really, we go into next season with no power hitters and are going to resort to small ball.

Not too bad though if the damn pitchers can gain control at the mound.

the biggest hit is losing Haylie McCleney and it's a real shame she'll leave without a national championship ring.

You people are nuts. What Auburn has been able to do over the last couple of years is a direct result of what Patrick Murphy has done for softball in the state of Alabama. He built the sport in this state. He took us to the WCWS in 2000 when the majority of high schools in Alabama were still playing slow-pitch.

He has earned our trust over the last 18 seasons. Let's let him do what he does best: win.

who is dissing him on here. Me and someone else posted that AU has become the premier SB college team in this state. That is a reflection of what has happened in the past couple of years. This has nothing to do with what he has done at Bama. He is a great coach and needs to dominate AU and make a serious run in the NCAA final 8 next year to start wrestling it back. AU had 5 pitchers. We had 2.5

It was nice for them I guess to see Pearl and Malzahn in the crowd supporting.

Would be cool to see Saban or Johnson cheering on next time a ladies team makes the 'ship.

From what I remember, no one of note made the trip to OKC in 2012... or even as close as Birmingham for gymnastics in 2014.

I'm pretty sure CAJ would show up in support. He was already at the Cotton Bowl and Glendale. Coach Patterson went to a lot of games too.

I'm not sure why Saban hasn't been to any...

I believe Coach Pattersons daughter was on the softball team and graduated last year.
