by the end of the year, Collins will be with this group. I wouldnt be surprised to see 4 safeties and 2 corners. HCD and Collins are both athletic and fast enough to be corners anyway

Collins will get some playing time but I wouldnt say much.

Anyone have any news on Vernon Hargreaves? He seems like one hell of a player.

I do know that he was in Tuscaloosa this week and his visit went well. He won't leave the State of Florida IMO.

2014 OL Will Clapp is visiting UA today. Bringing his mother, father, 3 brothers and grandmother on the trip.

Hope we are on that list lol.

I hope to see guys like Clinton-Dix and Geno Smith emerge too. We have plenty of depth in the secondary, don't know how LSU thinks they are deeper than us. We have plenty of talent, as they do too. There's a reason Eddie Williams is starting out on offense.

There are pictures out there of Clapp's dad and Saban shaking hands and laughing it up from when Saban was at LSU. Clapp's dad looks like a giant. I think this visit is a formality. Clapp was an LSU team captain (he played on the DL) at one point and has remained a big time booster for some time. Word is the decision may come shortly after he gets back to NOLA.

Geno Smith is not a very tall guy i had the chance to watch him play last year and he is a great football player just not very tall maybe around 5'9 or 5'10.

Both teams' depth is similar. We both know the talent is there, but for some of the guys it's unproven.
We're replacing a perimieter corner, a safety, and a dime back. All of whom were very key players last year. We do have Loston taking over at safety, and a couple other guys with a little experience. But our Dime and perimeter corners will likely be RS Frosh.

1. He will play on probably more than one ST package. Most likely kickoffs and probably on punt team too.
2. He's as talented and athletic as any player Bama has had in the secondary in a long time.
3. He's Saban's boy. Saban had been recruiting him for years and years.
4. Collins has stated he might start out learning the Nickel.
5. There isnt much of a logjam in front of him.
Im not saying he will start or even play a majority of the snaps, but anyone thinking he wont get much playing time is fooling themselves. He will be a contributer this year and a star the next two.

Yeah, VHIII tweeted that USC was his leader a couple weeks ago IIRC. His dad coaches at USF. I'm guessing he'll wind up at one of those 2 schools.

IMO, LC's role will be similar to HCD's last season - special teams and mop up duty. While he is very talented, we are extremely deep at safety: Lester, Vinnie, HCD, Perry, Williams. It'll be interesting to see how we keep Vinnie, HCD, and LC on the field in base defense in '13.

I don't expect him to contribute in the secondary until the 2nd half of the season barring injuries.
There are 3 studs at safety with several years in the system, and 2 guys with decent talent that have been there a while in williams and perry. They aren't on collins level athletically but saban doesn't care if usain bolt is on the roster, if he thinks you may get out of position because the game is moving to fast, you won't be out there.
At nickel, he is competing with a talented guy in his 3rd year in john fulton, and 2 juco guys. Juco guys are usually brought in to play. I expect collins contributions and playing time to mimic HCD last year. He'll play special teams and garbage time barring any injuries

One of those 3 is going to be the corner opposite Milliner, so its actually 4 guys competing for two spots. Belue is the only one of the three CBs who appears suited for to play inside. Dixon doesnt appear to have the tacking skills, based on what I saw in Bama's spring game. Granted, I havent seen him play much, but he seems like he isnt physical enough to play inside. Fulton appears much more suited to play on the outside as well, based on the skill set i've seen. Collins has got the most ability among the whole group. Its just a matter of him learning the defense.
It will be interesting to watch because those guys are all gonna be competing and its gonna make them all better. Two-a-days havent even started so there is still a long way to go before the coaches even make up their own minds about the depth chart.

Ok, for all the secondary talk I think we can agree that we are stacked.
Now, let's look at our CBs.
Milliner
Belue
Dixon
Fulton
Those are the main four. Geno Smith and Washington will probably be chilling on the bench and looking at some ST play.
Milliner is obviously a starter. He's a first round talent, and he'll be on the field on every down. People want to say that Fulton is our number two corner because he knows the defense so well, but he's not near as talented as Belue, AND Belue is pretty damn far ahead in terms of learning this defense. I say Belue is our second CB, BUT we'll use him like TM7. In Nickel, Dime, and potentially Quarters situations he'll be the Nickelback. In those situations, Fulton will move up to being the second CB. I think it is best if we RS Dixon. We'll need him next year, and by then he'll be well into the system. He's got a lot of upside, but he needs to learn this defense before he'll be able to prove it.
Robert Lester is our FS, though in Saban's D the FS and SS aren't that different. Lester will patrol the deep part of the field like he's Ed Reed defending a High School All Star team. Sunseri will play the SS. We'll use him in the box if the other team isn't a threat to throw it. HaHa will probably come in as the Dimeback, and Collins will be on STs a lot, but I'm sure he'll find a way into a rotation. Obviously if we go with 7 DBs he'll be on the field.
I don't see how this isn't how our setup looks.
