WRT Reuben I don't think he has bad character or is a bad person, but I am concerned by his apparent need to make everyone happy and inability to tell people no. He will face a lot of temptations while in college and needs to be able to say no to his friends if they're leading him down the wrong path.

Completly agree.

Or the drama is kept in house better. Didn't you have a playert try to stab another player. Bama has had their issues as well and will in the future. They have had a good run and Saban runs a tight ship. But he is recruiting the same type kids everyone else is and to act as if he isn't is silly.
You miss the point as I said if Saban shoots straight with recruits there will be a natural weed out process. We had the chance to secure
Keenan Allen's commitment and chose not to. Trent was told up until the day of his commitment that if he was afraid of competition Alabama was not the school for him. There are countless examples. It is not so much we do not recruit the same players, but if you do not bend of backwards to players offering friends, and promising playing time you are going to weed out a certain type of player.
Spin it however you want, but look at Dyer and Mosley.

quote:I got your point, but it is lacking. It insinuates if Saban recruits someone, but they go elsewhere, they were weeded out. As if choosing to go elsewhere was or diagnosed a character flaw.

quote:No big time coach promises playing time. They may promise chances at a certain position and insinuate that with the depth chart and a recruits talent that early playing time is likely. All of which is shooting straight.

Saban allegedly promised Calloway he was recruiting him at RB to get him back on board. In the mean time, everyone on earth knows his success, if he has any, will be on the defensive side of the ball.
Saban is a great coach and great recruiter, but his straight forward recruiting approach doesn't weed out anything. He does, however, have the luxury of not having to take chances on many kids because he has so many talented kids interested in his program and because he has eternal job security. Other coaches don't have that luxury, so they may take chances that Saban doesn't have to.

What happened to the term "VERBAL"? Maybe we should go back to it until national signing day, then use committed.

I assume you do not follow UA football and would not expect ou to but FWIW BC is in great shape to be our starting HB which is very important in our offense.

I don't follow it any more than what I read on here, but last I heard the coaches were discussing a possible move to safety with him and he played LB in the spring.
I don't know what role your HB plays, but BC likely won't ever be in Bama's regular rotation carrying the ball.

This I agree with and believe some UA fans overlook this. UA is in a great place to be picky at times and it has not hurt us with players like Allen who went elsewhere when he tried to bring his brother in and Saban would not be held hostage.
I also agree just because a player decommits and goes elsewhere from UA it is not because Saban weeded them out. Saban is to good in the recruiting process to take the commitment in the 1st place, meaning he would have never taken Foster's verbal if he thought there would be issues. Some kids just go other places and see their dreams being better made elsewhere. Nothing more.

In the end it is not the recruiting battle that matter, it is on the field in the fall. Many teams recruit well and many beat UA out for recruits we wanted, but still do not reach the end goal on the field like UA has.

Just to be clear I was not knocking you because I do not follow AU football FWIW. But BC looked very good at the HB position in the spring and all reports is he should be the starter. The HB was played by B Smelley this past year who just got drafted. BC will be even better at the role.FWIW

quote:Did not know this. I thought he played D in the spring. Either way, he isn't going to be a RB at Bama and everyone but Brent knew that when he was being recruited. I'm not disparaging Saban as I think he gave BC a fair shot to play RB, but Saban knew it wasn't going to happen, as we all did.
