I really want him. Look at his body type(no homo) he can be a 300 pound DE for us.

I think a lot of people get caught up in the rankings and all and want Poggi but we have lots of guys like him that are his size and probably more athletic than he is. We dont have too many guys with Carrs size. Saban wants him for a reason.

I agree on Carr... I think he is a nice upside piece. Ridiculous potential...

Poggi pretty much earned any praise he receives, nothing to do with rankings. He's a quick lineman with elite hands and a good pedigree, he has displayed such when he's in camps/all star weeks. Bama has been on him forever, up to him cancelling this weekend.
Thing I like about Carr is, besides the obvious size, is the fact he plays/played RE for his team. Many rushers are line up at LE on the RT and produce, I think Demarcus Walker's highlights have him at LE. Carr on the other hand, is producing as a RE against likely every team's best lineman.
So he's the size of a LE, I.e. a runstopper, yet is producing at RE as an edge rusher.

I was really high on Poggi. I wanted him more than anyone on here probably. Until I saw that he is kind of small at the Under Armour game. You look at his film and he looks big as hell. I mean we have D. Ball, D. Tomlinson, and D.J. Pettway that are all smallish lineman. I mean we dont have too many true everydown DEs. Thats why I like Carr. Would love either though. Also kind of wish Poggi had the long hair made him look like a bad arse.

Few DEs are gonna be ready to start in this defense out of HS.
Bama didn't recruit Ball, Tomlinson, and Pettway to be subpackage players, and they knew how tall they were well before they enrolled. Any weight that they are listed at is from when they arrived. All should be bigger when rosters come out for A-Day.
Being tall is a plus, but for a position that's about leverage and getting low, isn't always crucial. Dial and Fanning were both 6-6+ and 300, and both were backups to players they had 2 inches and 15-20 pounds on.

Talked to a GA last year (2001) who said that if Fanning ever got his shite together he would be incredible. Said kid has first round potential but only shows it in flashes. He said there were at least two kids on D who could be 3 and outs and those were Clinton-Dix and Fanning (again, this is from teh 2011 class).
FWIW same guy told me this past fall camp (2012) that Devall would be "this signing group's version of Hightower".

I hope Fanning gets his shite together then because it would be great to have a Dareus-caliber player on the DL again.

Fanning has apparently spent his entire time in Tuscaloosa deep within the doghouse. Maybe he will grow up this offseason and win one of the starting DE spots.

Grady has always had really good info. Hits on his predictions 99% of the time. He usually only posts when he's certain it will happen. Doesn't bullshite or crave attention. Good sign IMO.
