Are we still a lock to make a regional? It doesn't look like there's any hope left of hosting. Damn.

legit question? We should make the NCAA tournament. And yes we all know this is our worst team in decades.

To be honest. Yes, even as the worst team this program has had in a while, it's still Alabama Softball, we played well enough in the non-conf and every team in the SEC's RPI is so high, that we're pretty much guaranteed to make the NCAA Tournament even if we lose out from here.

That said, again, i don't care anymore.

If you want to build for anything more this year, consolidate and try to get "hot" when we go into the post-season.

Nothing else seems even attainable this year besides keeping our SuperRegional appearance streak alive.

We’re getting in on name recognition and reputation alone. If you put Indiana on the front of the jersey, we’re not going anywhere. Let that sink in.

Murphy should be put on notice. No excuse matters; it’s his team, his players, his coaches and has been for years. No damn excuse for this debacle.

I absolutely agree. Bama softball has become a laughing stock.

I don't think that's the case. If we continue to trend in the wrong direction next season, Murphy's seat should get pretty toasty, but we're not a "laughing stock," at least not yet. Look at our baseball program if you want to see what a real laughing stock of a program looks like.

The baseball program's issues were compounded from different leaders. Particularly the Coach from last year. The softball team is Murphy's and their slide his fault and his alone. What's happening this year is not a one year deal. This team has been in decline for years. The Florida's and Auburns in the league have surpassed this program. I would argue that talent alone and not coaching has carried the Alabama teams. I would like to see the results if the Florida coach was running this program.

I don't disagree with any of that. I just think it's premature to say we're a laughing stock.

Laughingstock, no probably not yet, unless you count the Auburns and other teams who are snickering about catching and passing mighty powerhouse Bama. But we are pissing away the reputation and respect we've worked for years to build. The previous poster is right, this ain't no one year deal. The program has been inching downward yearly since 2012 and now we've gone past a tipping point and the decline is glaringly obvious. That's why I'd tell Murphy you've got the rest of this season and next season to change the direction of the program. It doesn't have to be another natty in 2019, but further decline or even no sign of improvement, and you're out.

I have no inside info, but I think this will be Murphy's last year. I don't think he'll get fired but I think he resigns.

If Murphy cannot right this ship, his resignation is the best case scenario. All hell will break loose if they fire Patrick Murphy from Alabama Softball. Mark my words.

Not so sure your assessment about the former players is true. Why would they be happy about the state of the program. Last time I checked, the University was in charge of this program. Other than the out of shape and no way physically fit to play softball players. I don't think you'd get much of a rise out of this team.

The University is in charge of the program, but if you don't believe they listen to alumni then I don't know what to tell you. The former players are loyal to Murphy and if Bama fired him after this season, all hell would break loose. I'm not sure how many bad seasons it would take for the former players to want a change.

Oddly enough, the most qualified alum head coaching was Stephanie VanBrakle, who developed Samford into a conference champion.

Back? She's been the pitching coach since 2012.

I am lost then. So who is the SU coach? Our pitching coach married someone with the last name of Prothro right?
