This crap has become ridiculous
You make it sound like someone is hating on him. Saying he's not his listed height is perfectly fine, most guys aren't their listed height. Remember when people swore T-Rich was 5'11"?
quote:
Sims is 5"10' and shorter than Eddie Lacy?
Maybe not. I could be remembering it wrong, but I feel like they stood next to each other once and Lacy was visibly taller. Could be wrong. Didn't give an absolute.
quote:
Geez. Sims was recruited to play safety. Since when has Saban recruited safeties under 6 feet. Ridiculous, asinine posting going on here.
Calm down. It's just a message board.
quote:
I really think a number of you would like Sims to play and fail
You seriously need to step away for a little bit if you think people calling Sims shorter than his listed height is wanting him to fail. Not a single damn true Bama fan wants anything for Sims other than success.
quote:
maybe even would like us to lose a game in the process
Hell no.
quote:
just so you can say you were right
Who gives a shite about being right if Bama lost a game? Who would want to be right about someone, especially someone representing the Tide, failing?
quote:
I bet you guys would prefer that to Sims leading us to a championship. Haters gonna hate, I guess.
Stop getting all pissy over your own misconceptions.

Guys, Sims has looked absolutely pitiful in the past. He's limited physically but good god he's good for a "HOLY frick WHAT WAS HE THINKING" pass quite frequently. Like, he does that shite all the time. In terms of dropping back and making decisions...he's horrible. Guys, he's really bad.
I'm in no way trying to troll or be mean or anything even close to that. I just can't fathom what would be going through his or my head as he takes a snap against an LSU or Auburn.

You're not wrong, but that doesn't mean he hasn't improved.

He may have improved. We all hope he has. But as for some people blindly defending him and acting like he wasn't bad before (he may have improved and we all hope he has), I'm sure they have some sort of personal reason for wanting Sims to win. I just can't understand wanting any one person to win. We should all hope that whoever is the best man for the job wins, no matter who that is.

I don't care who starts. The better QB will be out there.
When I think of QB's improving I think of guys like Mett who show skills but need to work on little things and come back the next year more confident and better QB's. The transition from QB with potential to solid starting QB is a pretty basic and fluid transition.
How in the world does anyone think Sims is in any way shape or form in the middle of honing his QB skills to be a solid starter?

The winner won't be determined on this board. That said both will play and it'll be obvious when the lights come on who the guy is just as it was in 2011. We fans will have to be patient and let the QB grow into the position and establish the offense we need to be successful. Roll Tide!!! Anybody tailgating at the Dome?

Maybe Coker is good and Sims is good too; why does nobody consider that
I think most do. We just read and watch what's posted, rather than post.
I certainly hope Sims is good and would have no problem whatsoever if he beats out Coker. I want the best player on the field. It would be icing, after the hard work he's put into this team and the dedication he's had. I love players like Sims, who put their nose to the grindstone, never complain and do everything that's asked of them. I love seeing guys like that have success. :bluecollarguysftw:

Sorry, but you are wayyyy over killing how Sims has looked in the past. He hasn't looked that bad.

Sims, Coker or Helen Keller....IDGAD...just as long as the qb can do a simple hand off and make a 10 yard throw is all I want.
eta: and the qb had better be able to communicate clearly in the huddle when calling plays like "Jet 27 X Bronco 42 Go".

Good god, what a shite show.
Any chance Bateman can parlay this into playing time?

I still don't know how anyone could watch A-Day and come away with the conclusion that Sims is pretty good to great. He was downright terrible. Sure, receivers dropped some as they did with Bateman. But the bottom line is he never looked like he was in command of the game. He wasn't the best quarterback on the field that day.
I was watching the Elite 11 documentary the other day, and one of the experts was talking about how quarterbacks who are shorter than 6'2 have to make up for the lack of height and therefore vision by having impeccable mechanics and delivery ala Russell Wilson. Blake Sims has neither. Could he improve? Absolutely. But at this point we have seen nothing that tells us Blake Sims is a championship caliber quarterback which is what we need right now.

What we don't see is what happens everyday in practice. If Sims were as bad as some are making him out to be based on A-day (and I'll be the first to admit he was truly terrible in the '13 A-day) then he wouldn't have been moved back to QB much less been our primary back-up for the past 2 years and in the battle for the starting job this year. The truth is I personally don't think we've seen enough of Sims to conclude he's awful anymore than we've seen enough Coker to pronounce him great. Coaches see them everyday and it's sounding like they're pretty even which is the impression I got watching them on fan day.

Yeah, I'm not saying Coker is great. I am just saying that two A-days have shown Blake Sims to be pretty bad. He could've improved in the offseason, and I certainly hope he has, but other posters in this thread think its preposterous to say that Blake Sims looked like shite on A-Day. I don't understand how you could have watched that game and came to any other conclusion. Bottom line is if Sims really is as bad as his A-Day performances indicate, and Coker isn't that great either, maybe I need to stock up the liquor cabinet for this season

I just watched every snap of his from the first half of last year's a day, and he definitely wasnt that bad. Lots of drops. I will watch the second half tomorrow.

Look, Sims does shite at QB that no, nooooo QB who knows ANYTHING about the game of football does. When plays break down, he literally throws the ball ANYWHERE.
I've seen enough bad throws by QBs. Sims is on another level when it comes to simply freaking out and just tossing a pass to whoever the frick wants to step under it. I don't mean passes where you trust your arm to fit one in or expect someone to be where they aren't. He throws passes up for grabs like it's his job. Stuff that you simply CANT do anywhere, let alone against some of the teams Alabama will play.

Both will get their shot in the cupcakes to ultimately win the starting spot. Will be interesting who gets the first series against WVU
