I guess the saving grace in the QB battle is that since both still have a chance to win the spot that unlike years past where we always worried if GMac or AJ got hurt we would be screwed I guess now we should look at it as we finally have quality depth at the position. Whether they both are great or not should not be a drop off at this point.

Finally watched Lane's presser. Thought he did a great job answering without sidestepping and looking like a little bitch. He seemed genuinely thankful and happy to be here. I hated the hire initially, and still am not in love with it, but I must admit the press conference was well done on his part. I can't believe he still isn't even 40. I could see him here for two years or so before getting offered another HC position at a smaller power5 program. Really excited to see how he develops the QBs we have on roster and coming in with Blake. Also really hope his offense isn't just a bunch of screens. We have been warned that is coming by a lot of his ex fanbases.
Watched some of QB videos as well. Both Sims and Coke looked pretty evenly matched. I honestly don't care who starts or ends up being our starter. If Saban trust that player than so will I. I don't have the confidence that Sims can get it done in live action against actual competition. He has never impressed me before in those situations. However Cokes tape at FSU, although is a tiny sample size, isn't really impressive either. Having a big arm doesn't mean shite if he isn't accurate. The good news about our QB situation is that whoever starts, has the benefit of utilizing what might be the best skill positions group in the Nation. I know I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said in here, but I wanted to contribute and had some time to kill this morning. It feels good actually talking football again. frick the offseason. Roll Tide.

Y'know if Drake didn't have fumble problems, I think he'd make a great return man if Jones went down or had a bad stretch.

I would LOVE to see Drake back there.

We need more footballs or a longer game. Guys like Drake and Cooper need the ball a lot, but so do guys like Yeldon, Henry, Howard, and White.
Damnit hopefully whoever our QB is he'll be able to feed our weapons. I've had a lot of free time for a few days now. Needless to say, 2005 USC and 2013 FSU games have been admired.

Ah, I missed your post.
I don't think it's completely fair to judge Sims or Coker on garbage time. I've seen FSU fans talk about how it wasn't fair for Coker because their second team OL couldn't pass protect and their receivers were lost. I broke down the Coker regular season tape, and found that when you look deeper he looked better than the numbers lead you to think. I think Sims would yield similar results.

yeah, when bethune is crashing through your oline like its a set of 5 turnstiles, you are not getting good protection

I'm kinda glad for one play against them though. He was pressured hard and he avoided a bunch of em before they finally got em. Guy is underrated as a runner. Something he and Sims will give us is that option that defenses have to be aware of. While they're busy covering all that talent, if you give those guys a lane they can pick up a few.

-- DLs Jarran Reed and Brandon Ivory have completed their re-acclimatization period after missing the first six days of camp with a suspension. That meant both were in full pads for the first time since A-Day. Ivory wore a brace on his right knee, though he did not appear to be limited.
-- The only defensive lineman not healthy and on the practice field is A'Shawn Robinson, who has been officially out for a week with an injured knee. He has 18 days to get ready for the season opener.
-- OL Leon Brown, meanwhile, was in his second day of the re-acclimatization period, so he was still in a helmet, jersey and shorts. He appeared to be moving well and lined up second at right guard in drills that didn't have contact with other players. When the players started thudding each other, Isaac Luatua worked at second-team RG.
-- No Tim Williams.
-- LB Denzel Devall (leg) was going through some of the early-practice drills that he'd been sitting out the past few days. He was chatting with head trainer Jeff Allen when reporters were allowed on the field.
-- Because of the aforementioned beaming sunshine, the water truck was out early and often.
"I've used it to my advantage," senior offensive lineman Arie Kouandjio said after Monday's practice. "I believe it does help. It helps cool you down a little bit. It's like rain."
-- Reggie Ragland and Shaun Dion Hamilton worked together with the first-group nickel defense. That formation also included Landon Collins and Nick Perry at the safeties, Bradley Sylve and Cyrus Jones at the corners and Jarrick Williams at Star.
-- DB Geno Smith (knee) was a bystander during these drills.
-- Remember Tosh Lupoi? He was out on the practice field today watching the outside linebackers.
What's next?
Saban and select players will meet with the media after today's practice. The Crimson Tide holds its final two-a-day of camp Wednesday.

Same. In base I'd prefer Geno at FS, but in Nickel I'd rather have Perry as far away from a lot receiver as possible.

well if they are kicking the ball like 30 yards or so it could help in some way id guess. you do need to focus to kick it, you need to realize your target, you need to have a good plant leg for long distance soccer passes. And most long distance kicks are done with shoe laces instead of inside of foot. So I can see how it could be a beneficial change up to the usual drills.
