Jansen almost blew another save, but held on. Hoping we can sweep the fish on the road today and build off it!

Strider's long term future is hopefully in the rotation and I don't see the organization giving up on that just because Jansen had a couple of bad outings. This season is going to be extremely rough on bullpens because of the lack of off days.

I cant see a dude with two pitches lasting 6 innings in the bigs. I'd rather have an elite closer than an average 5th man in the rotation.

Strider could be the next Kimbrel / Smoltz with that 101 fastball, and + slider. He's got closer written all over him IMO. Has any pitcher ever had a long career throwing six innings a game above 100 MPH ? IF he backs off the 101 then hes just another guy throwing 98, but at 101 for three outs dude is overpowering.

He has ++fastball to go along with a slurve and a change up. The slurve and change up look almost identical in his mechanics but one sits at 89-91 and the other sits around 84 with different movement. Neither one are +pitches yetand both are pretty good. He has elite starter potential.

He has a 2 seamer, a slurvy slider, and a changeup. He just isn't comfortable enough with the changeup to throw it as much more than a show pitch. They are working on improving it to where he can use it effectively enough to get through a lineup 3 times though.

And a guy who can dial it back and still sit 97/98 isn't just another guy throwing upper 90s gas because every batter they face knows that 101 might be coming at them on any given pitch. That's a big reason Verlander has been so good for so long. He keeps 100+ in his back pocket and can still throw that hard when he needs to 90+ pitches into a game.

Good point.

Simply tired of having these closers that depend on location or some off speed pitch to get outs. Give me overpowering fastball guy for 3 outs in the ninth. Chapman / Wagner/ Kimbrel etc

Strider could very well end up being our closer of the future. He seems to be comfortable in high leverage situations and obviously his stuff can be pretty unhittable. But if there is potential for him to be a capable starter it has to be explored. If he proves he can't, that's fine. He's still valuable, but you have to try to maximize that value. Having him in the rotation vs. in the bullpen is the difference between getting 180-200 innings from him rather than 60.

Rosario will visit an eye doctor on May 26 to get a better feel for what he might be doing the next few weeks. He is riding a stationary bike and completing other conditioning drills, but his activities are still limited as he recovers from laser eye surgery.

He underwent the procedure to address the blurred vision and swollen retina he was diagnosed with in April. Braves manager Brian Snitker indicated that the veteran outfielder is still at least a few weeks away from
resuming baseball activities.

Acuna out tonight, probably tomorrow as well, with right quad tightness.
He's played really well lately, however misses lots of games for a 24 yr old.

I think they are just being cautious after his injury last year.

Strider doesn't frick around. Struck 2 more out in the 6th. Challenging hot hitting Harper, who grounded out.

Well documented now that mlb is using a dead-ball this season- does anyone else think the ball sounds different off the bat ?

I swear it sounds like a mushy baseball. Not the same pleasing crisp sound off the bat. Anyone ?

They really need to change it back.

I wish we would stop being old school and just use the best reliever for the situation instead of sticking to one person as a closer.

Atlanta Braves top prospect Michael Harris was called up this morning.
Harris moved up quickly through the minors.
He's capable of being a 5 tool player.
Demeritte was sent back down.

Pretty excited to see Harris. The defense is certainly there. He crushes RHP

I'm surprised he got called up before Waters, but I'm excited to see him too. I think he is the long term answer. He had a huge on base streak earlier this year and the longer it went the more you could see him trying too hard to keep it going. If he will just live in the moment and not try to do to much he is talented enough to take the starting spot and never give it up.

Injuries and inconsistency plague Waters. Bowman said tonight would be the first time this season that Waters plays 3 games in a row. I think he’ll eventually make it up too but he’s got more work to do

Welp, Strider gets blown up as a fifth starter, and Jansen blows another save.

I would really like to see 101 MPH for three outs in the ninth. At least then we only have the 5th starter to figure out- not the fifth starter and closer.

AA pulled a miracle last year so he has earned leeway, but dude please stop giving mountains of money to washed up relief pitchers that could easily be replaced by... anybody with a pulse. Anybody. Smith and Jansen combined wouldn't = 20 million dollar closer.
