Braves had better stop operating under this notion that the pennant cant be lost in April and May. Last season was a miracle.
There is literally no way to supplement your roster from any source other than your farm system or DFA's in April and May. Half the lineup is hitting and half isn't. Half the rotation is pitching well and the other half isn't. Literally nothing can be done about it right now other than waiting for Ronald to be ready and hoping a couple of Morton, Elder, and Anderson get their shite together. It's not like the FO planned to struggle in April.

They planned on holding Acuna out and rolling into the season razor thin in the outfield with the worst collection of fielding OFs maybe in the history of baseball.
Thats why I've been vocal about the Joc deal... he's a good fielding OF that can hit.
We lost a game the other day purely from bad defense in the OF. Its the bad news bears out there.
I'm saying enough of this infielders playing OF, and guys batting .050 that can only make the most basic of plays in the OF- it is time to bring up a minor league OF to help out IMO. (Why not ?)
Acuna says he's ready. He looks ready. He's playing at 100% so under the circumstances I'm not following how coy they are being with his return date.

The entire NL East imploding was kind of a miracle, no ? I suppose my main point is this narrative on EVERY Braves broadcast of "well, nothing to worry about- Braves didn't even get over .500 until X last year yada yada yada" does not give me the warm and fuzzies.
Again, bring up a minor league OF that can hit .250 and play good defense and we'd have been in a better place the last few weeks. Sign Joc and... nevermind. lol

Like who? Players with average bats who play good outfield defense don't exactly grow on trees. Michael Harris and Drew Waters are our two closest to MLB ready outfield prospects. Waters is fringey and hurt right now anyway, and Harris has like a dozen games above A ball under his belt.

I know this organization loves to celebrate division titles(14 straight is all you heard about until last season) but with now being guaranteed a series with a WildCard berth again…division title isn’t as important

Braves win!
K.Jansen slams the door. 5/5 in save opportunities.

As far as OF prospects go, Braves top prospect M.Harris smoking it already in AA. He'll be moved up sooner than later to Gwinnett.
Travis Demeritte with a good all around defensive/offensive game tonight from the RF position.

Ironically Demeritt performance tonight was exactly what has been missing. Apparently he's been on a tear in the minors while we've been suffering through this bad news bears routine in the OF

Last time I'll mention the Joc deal but was looking at some stats and found that Joc is batting leadoff for the Giants to the tune of .353 BA & 1.130 OPS
Rub that salt right on in there

Dickerson got the DFA. Acuna has been activated.

Kinda figured they were going to bring him back early after Rosario went on IL. Braves are #1 in MLB in hard hit%, #7 in K rate, and in the 20s in pretty much every other offensive category. So they're making frequent contact and making it count, but Manfred fricking with the baseball once again has screwed us. The team was built to mash but these deadened balls are turning many of last year's HRs into this year's harmless warning track flyouts.
Shouldn't be a big problem for Ronald though. He doesn't hit many into the first couple of rows. Most of his HRs are absolute bombs.

The top of order having 16 HRs but only 36 RBIs speaks to that. Just a run of bad injury luck and slow starts for the bottom of the order.
The OF defense has issues with these new balls too.

Exciting news getting our leadoff hitting phenom back.
Batting order gonna look much better.

Manfred is literally on record talking about needing to make changes to the ball in response to increased HR rates. But yeah, definitely a conspiracy theory.
He is also on record stating that those changes don't need to be run by or approved by the MLBPA before being implemented.

I'm still not a fan of extra innings beginning with a runner on 2nd base.
I could see maybe going with that by the 12th inning.

Tinfoil.
It goes deeper. Apparently there was a mix of the juiced balls and no juiced last year. Someone had a breakdown using statcast on which teams likely were getting more of the previous juiced balls than others.
There's an article on insider about it titled MLB Says It Used 2 Different Balls. I went down the rabbit hole last year on it.

Yeah the actual conspiracy theory on that is whether they did it to advance the interests of their new gambling partners. It's 100% indisputable that MLB has been fricking with the baseball for years.

I don't think anyone likes it but the players/owners thought it would be good for just one more year due to the short spring which makes a little sense.

Good gawd what a debacle. Man, humans can F anything up.
Well, I tried to read a bit into today, but got busy, but I will say this- there have been several balls this year by both Braves and their opponents that off the bat looked like absolute no doubters and they fell harmlessly on the track for outs.
Really hope for the sake of the game this hasn't been gambling related in past years. That would be awful yet typical of the times we live... I guess. SMH
