A story shared by The Athletic on Wednesday outlined some "unusual behavior" that Jerod Mayo exhibited during his year as the New England Patriots head coach before he was recently canned...
quote:

On a night when the frustration over a terrible performance had some wondering if their jobs were about to be in jeopardy, it was surprising to at least one person at the front of the plane to see the head coach mingling with players in such a casual way.

“Look, there are a lot of ways to do the job,” a team source who was on the plane said. “It’s not that Jerod’s was definitely wrong. But I can’t say I’ve seen that before.”

Mayo, according to team sources with knowledge of the situation, struggled with discipline and how to enforce it. Before the Patriots’ Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, he told broadcast crews he was going to bench running back Rhamondre Stevenson because of his recent fumbles. But when it was time to do so, he had a change of heart and let the running back start.

“I still don’t know what happened with that,” a team source said. “Honestly, Jerod is a good guy. I just don’t think he was ready for all the big decisions and discipline and focus the job takes.” …

Last week, linebacker Jahlani Tavai criticized the hometown fans for booing the team. Mayo addressed the topic in a team meeting, essentially coaching the group on the proper way to phrase looming questions on the issue. A few hours later, Tavai doubled down on his original comments. He never apologized.

So they are also firing the guy/committee who hired Jerrod Mayo, right?

"Insane Dysfunction" is a bit much for someone that just couldn't make the tough decisions.

If the NFL and the media want more black coaches to succeed in the NFL, then the NFL needs to stop setting them up to fail. 100% he wasn't ready to be a head coach, and I think Kraft knew that.

So….Kraft intentionally brought in someone not ready for the job…makes total sense.

I don’t understand these DEI hires. Particularly the first woman fire chief in the LAFD.

Kraft was making the politically correct hire after after Bill retired and we see how well that worked out for him.

Not everything is about race

Except Mayo made it about race when he was hired.

Kraft knew who he was hiring. this sounds really lame and tame.
This sounds exactly what you'd expect from a 30-something ex-player to coach a NFL team in his first go-around.

the Pats wanted a Players coach instead of being a strict like Belichick

Seems like lame insignificant scenarios being blown up as an excuse leaked by Kraft. This must be his response to the negative reaction he has been receiving

He has $16 million. Not bad for a 38-year-old hillbilly. He can live large from the interest.

Stephen A Smith said it was because he was black though? And Ryan Clark agreed with him.

'Vrabel is available and that's really what's going on here. They didn't want to lose him, especially to a team like the New York Jets.'
