Boomer Esiason Has A Very, Very, Very Hot Take On The 2021 NFL Draft
© Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports
While on the Greg Hill Show, NFL analyst Boomer Esiason was asked who he’d take with the first pick in the draft if they did it over again...
quote:

“I think Mac Jones would be (first),” Esiason said. “I think everybody sees that.”
Meaning he'd take Jones over Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Justin Fields. Hmm...Agree?

I wanted Mac Jones for the Saints.

That's dumb. Mac is a much better situation than any of those other QBs. If Mac was in Jacksonville he'd be struggling too. As well, if Trevor was in NE he'd look much better.

But he'd be on the Jets. Mac is playing for a HOF coach

Mac was definitely the most ready to play day 1. this could change dramatically as their careers progress. The most amazing thing is that he will likely be a better pro than Tua and Hurts despite being nowhere close to them at Bama

Mac was not the 5th best QB in the class. Nowhere close. He was closer to 1 than he was to 5. If the game were just played mentally Mac would have been QB1. He's head and shoulders above every QB in this class at the mental aspect of the game. Performs well under duress, dude isn't backing down from standing in the pocket and making a tough throw where he gets walloped afterwards. He doesn't play the game scared. He's back there more prepared than anyone else on the field. Knows where he's going with the ball, throws with anticipation. Safest guy in the class. If I had to put a grand on which QB in this class would have the best career I'd have put it on Mac.

Mac landed with the right team. That doesn't mean that the other QBs aren't better. Look at Joe Burrow. His bad luck was landing with the Bengals.

You can’t say this without all of the QBs playing for the same team with the same coaches and system. It def worked out for Jones, but you can’t say he’d be lighting it up playing for Urban and the Jags just bc he’s doing well with the Patriots.

Even at the time of the draft, I would have taken Wilson, Jones, and Lance before Lawrence.

Trevor was a hype machine. He was never an accurate passer. He reminds me of the big arm in baseball that throws 99 and has no idea where it is going. Problem is, MLB has the minors to work in out, the NFL does not.

Jesus Christ these people are crazy. Good thing he's not a GM.
