You go to make the slide and the league needs to make that illegal. If you want to protect the QB then you need to stop stuff like that.

Do not like it. That rule was set up so sissy QBs do not get laid out. Defensive players are trained not to go near the QB when they start to slide. That is bs.

agreed...good for him for exploiting the rules, but it is a bullshite way to score.

Yeah, I think the rule is that they are supposed to be marked down where they give themselves up for the slide, not where they wind up at the end. The same should apply here in this case. He gave himself up, the defense responded appropriately ... should have been a dead ball at that spot.

Plus 15 yd unsportsmanlike penalty.

With the way they are ejecting players and calling fouls these days, you have to make that illegal. I hate it, but you can’t screw over the defense that much.

I would not have a knee anymore if I attempted that.

To those who object...then should it be illegal for the QB to fake a spike and throw the ball for a TD (y'all know who I mean). I'm good with both. Defense got outsmarted in both cases. Defense's job is to make sure the player is down or the play was over. In both of these instances they didn't do that.

This is an absurd and ignorant analogy. There is no rule about pump fakes where defensive players must stop action. Marino's fake was on the defense. However, the defense must pull back when the qb slides. This was unsportsmanlike, and the refs blew it.
