I've always thought that football coaches working 16 hours a day and sleeping in their office was completely unnecessary. Work smarter, not longer!! Hell, Spurrier was known for working reasonable hours, and his team dominated.

If Spurrier had worked like that he would have won more titles. I've always viewed Spurrier different than most in that I never thought he maxed out what he could do. It's what eventually led to him and South Car parting ways. Coming into practice late from the golf course, going to the beach house during peak recruiting season.

"If Spurrier had worked like that he would have won more titles".... I'm talking about when he was Florida. It's also the law of diminishing returns. The 60th hour you work in a week provides very little incremental value, compared to the 40th.

Imagine if this guy was just 20 years younger. Saban has to be extremely impressed with the good things Cig sponged off him.

A really sharp coach w/ a good philosophy. He's well on his way to winning NC's. To note Saban's long hours might be a big factor in the revolving door!!!

Happy people perform better. Very few people, even if they love a job, can do it nonstop for months while remaining happy.

The good thing for him is that he started and proved himself at smaller schools and probably told IU he will do this job only with a reasonable work schedule. Being demanding and focused for 10-12 hours beats drifting focus while working nonstop

I like it, “Smarter and harder trumps going ever longer.”

Saban had his guys working those long hours. The thing was, work for him a few years, pad your resume, move on!

Former DI MBB assistant I knew used to shake his head at the football coaches for how much unnecessary performative time they had to spend in the office.

Did LSU ever consider this guy? If not, why?
