According to commissioner Adam Silver, the NBA will continue to move away from the use of the term "owner" to describe those with controlling interest of teams in favor of the terms "Governor of the team" and "alternate Governor"...Per CBS...
quote:

The change was made due to concerns that the term "owner" can be viewed as racially insensitive in a league where the vast majority of players are African-American and the majority of owners are Caucasian. While the league itself stopped using the term years ago, individual teams are now starting to follow suit; something Silver was asked about.
"I don't want to overreact to the term because, as I said earlier, people end up twisting themselves into knots avoiding the use of the word 'owner,'" Silver said, via TMZ Sports. "But we moved away from that term years ago with the league. We call our team owners 'Governors' of the team and 'alternate Governors. So I think it makes sense. As I said, I don't want to overreact ... but I'm sensitive to it, and I think to the extent that teams are moving away from the term, we'll stick with using Governor."

Political correctness and the culture of being offended is a cancer to this country.

I might have heard it all.....so even though the owner owns the team we can't call him the owner because that would hurt the feelings of millionaire athletes.

Okay so if an buys a business, they should be called “ governor “ also and not owner... correct?

I now demand everyone call me governor since I own my own business. This is cool, we'll have like 10,000,000 governors now.

Governor is an elected person. The owner of a team is not. This is stupid

Releases a statement about his overreaction by saying he doesn't want to overreact. I'm confused.

Mr. Silver can call them "governors". The rest of the world will continue to call them "owners".

So, now the NBA is making decisions based on political correctness? The owners own the teams not the players. he owner's have contract deals with the players (which they pay thru the nose for) - Fake problem, fake solution

Wouldn't you say that it was thin skinned people that started this movement to begin with?

I like sports, but most athletes are mush-heads who can be driven to support any cause or policy. They as well as actors should never have been elevated to any position of authority whatsoever.

A person owns the team and "contracts" with players. The term "owner" never, ever had anything to do with "owning" people in a negative way. In 53 years of walking this Earth as a Black Man, it never, ever dawned on me to equate a team owner to slavery. This is so stupid it's hard to believe it is real.
