After each week's completion, ESPN College Football analyst Cole Cubelic shares his "Sunday SEC takeaways."

Here's what he had to say after LSU's 24-19 loss to Ole Miss:
quote:

LSU: Brutal loss. Had chances. QB not super comfy. Pressure got there. Took shots & didn't get enough 1 on 1 wins. Threw into traffic. 1 or 2 behind. Stood in there for the most part. Plan got the ball out quick often. OL struggled with movement. Gave up too much push in pass pro. Edges got home. Evened up formations in run game 7 times! Just couldn't lean on it. Misdirection & motion helped. Couple tough drops. 2 plays over 20 yards not enough. Felt like there were yards underneath. Defense had a few issues with eyes on splitters & motion. DTs played hard. Caused some problems. 7 was active. Attacked well. Lost contain a few times. Let RB get some tough yards. Struggled to get QB to the ground. 0 sacks wasn't gonna get it. Lost TE a few times. 13 just a ball player. Nice job batting balls at LOS. Effort was there. Sometimes to their own fault. Movement took them out of a good number of plays.

Still haven’t heard anyone point out that our D played totally vanilla. No pressure. No chaos. Not even faking blitzes. Didn’t give QB ANYTHING to think about

Anytime in shotgun Nuss goes to handoff, they immediately blitz on RB as they no Nuss would never keep it. RB starts out 5 yards behind LOS, it takes time for snap to reach Nuss, this all yields 2.7 yards per carry. Something gotta change. QB cough cough.

He didn't address enough how inaccurate and short Nuss throws were. We know the run game sucks. Our OL isn't good enough in any combination, our RBs aren't great. But what we can change is QB. We already tried all combos of OL and RB. Gotta do QB now.

Boom. They have tried changing every position but the QB.

Changing QB is the spark the offense needs.

Good description of what happened. Offensive line needs improvement, but everyone has been saying that for months and it seems to stay about the same. Not sure if its talent or coaching or both. When it gets figured out, the offense will improve. If not, then look for at least 2 more loses at some point

it's coaching at this point.

Even a good OL isn't going to help a predictable running game. The defense doesn't have to account for the QB since he never runs so they all just go straight to & attack the RB. That is why there is no running game.

Yeah, what he said... and then some.
