LSU backup quarterback Michael Van Buren was spotted at practice on Monday with a splint on his right hand, covering his index and middle fingers.

Van Buren, who transferred to Mississippi State in the offseason, has been competing with Colin Hurley in fall camp to back up Garrett Nussmeier this season. Per The Daily Advertiser:

The Mississippi State transfer signal caller was seen at the Tigers' 16th preseason practice Monday morning sporting a splint on his right hand, covering his index and middle fingers. Van Buren was present at practice and dressed out, but did not participate in any throwing drills that the media were able to see.

Van Buren was a full participant in LSU's practice Friday, the last practice media were allowed to view. The team had its second scrimmage of fall camp Saturday night inside Tiger Stadium so it appears the 6-foot, 190-pound sophomore injured his throwing hand at some point during that scrimmage.

Hope it’s nothing serious, need a solid backup just in case.

The team needs to stay healthy especially during camp. With Nuss’s knee tendinitis, Perk/Whit still not a ?? % to go everyday all out creates a lot of questions for the opener and being at full strength.
