re: Joe Sloan was a turrible OC but the operation of the offense was not as good

I don’t understand how we don’t have more short crossing routes or pick plays (legal) or motion that helps us identify man coverage and run the routes that are good against man. Chip with the rb. Idk. Just something seems majorly off with the offense. This is why I want kiffin the most.

If we make the playoffs we would have to rehire Brian Kelly as head coach since he made the playoffs.

Thomas is best PG since Waters. Can score it. Penetrate and dish or lay it up and draw a foul. Max can straight up light it up from 3. Sutton has a great role too.
Between Nwoko, Reed and Miller we should have some good play down low. Miller has the look of Brandon Ingram when he’s on the floor. Not play wise but body type and athleticism.
Getting good backup PG minutes will be key this year and keeping turnovers low.
70% from the field is 3rd highest since 1950.

I think the USCw game last year was the beginning of the end. Post game presser pounding the table looking so fake.

Only watched 2nd half. Best point guard since Waters. And he’s taller. McKinnon hit a couple 3s in 2nd half. Nwoko is massive.
Defense in transition wasn’t great. Rebounding was ok. Let a couple get away.

Rumors that he was not here during bye week, he played golf during game weekends, he would leave practice for a while, he maybe has a drinking problem.
Josh Pate suggested he didn’t put in the effort it takes.
Scona insinuating lots of stuff being spewed and he wasn’t going to speak on any of it. Some he thought was not true while others he thought probably had some validity.

I know but just that story is interesting and could have been the beginning of the end.

That was pretty odd timing but maybe makes a little more sense now.
Could have been the start of the beginning of the end. Especially if any of this other stuff is remotely true. I sure hope it’s not.
I never really hated Kelly. But wish he had given it his all to win a natty. I wanted him to win one. He picked lsu over ND and that meant something.

I agree it’s Oline and OC problem. Defense also has a problem containing a running QB. We know it’s coming and can’t stop it.

Sure but the results are against 2 top 10 teams and if Pavia doesn’t shite himself they probably beat bama at bama. My point still stands…. One play. Now I think vs bama we have to play much more flawless than we have but I think we have talent to do so. Harold Perkins has to get his head out of his arse or he needs to be benched. I don’t care how much his NIL is. If you don’t give effort you don’t play.

I’m talking about the ones coming back to the middle of the field. Middle screens. It’s actually been a decent play prior. I remember Anderson last year having a big gain.
Glass half full outlook

Yeah, I get it — it looks rough. We don’t look physical, there’s no clear identity, and we’ve got what feels like 85 receivers we can’t consistently get the ball to. But now, at least, we’ve started to show signs of a run game — averaging 6 yards per carry is something to build on.
That said…
As bad as things have looked at times, I honestly think the defense was the biggest issue in this last loss. Getting healthy on that side of the ball has to be the top priority. We've lost two road games by a combined 12 points. Those are one-possession games — meaning one or two plays here and there could’ve flipped the outcome. Maybe we’re not that far off, even if it feels like it.
If we can get those three key defenders back for this week and the Alabama game, who knows what could happen? The offense still needs to find some rhythm, no doubt, but I’m at least feeling a little more encouraged — especially with Berry stepping up at running back.
I'd really like to see the OC help take some pressure off the O-line with some smarter play calls — things like RB screens, WR/TE screens — just simple ways to get our playmakers in space. At the end of the day, though, it comes down to execution.
