Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin spoke on the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday afternoon and was asked about LSU's additions from the transfer portal in the offseason.

Here's what he had to say:
quote:

"They have done a great job, and Brian Kelly spoke on how they spent a lot of money in the portal this time around," Kiffin explained, "And it's paid off, like for most people."

"I think the numbers were that Miami, Texas Tech, and LSU spent the most money in the portal, and look how they are playing. It usually pays off well. And they have done a great job on defense."

"It's a very abnormal Louisiana defense, as they have one starter from Louisiana. It just shows that three of their starters on the defensive line and three guys in the secondary are portal guys. It's just different from the old ways of building."

"A lot of credit to them for embracing the portal. Now they're by far the most talented defense since we have been here playing them. Not even close."

He conveniently forgot to say that Ole Miss spent more in the portal than anyone else last year.

You sound hurt like you think he was complaining.

The audience for this statement is not LSU fans or football pundits. The target is Ole Miss money men. His message is "If you want to win, pay up."

Doesn’t mean much if we can’t score points. Nussmeier better bring his A game on Saturday

It's not all Nuss. OL, play calling but, yes, the O as a whole needs to be better.

He is wrong LSU has recruited well at LB, DL, Corner and safety. Spears, Gilbert, PJ, all the Weeks bros. Also we rotate a ton with Louisiana boys on the line.
He is trying to take away from internal growth and making it all portal. To bad lane people that know this team aren’t biting.

He’s right. It’s just the world of college football now. Bama has been slow to adapt. I think UGA and Clemson are that way as well. Get with it or get left behind. You have open free agency and no salary cap. Take advantage of it.

"they're by far the most talented defense since we have been here playing them. Not even close". This was all I took from that.

Kinda like a lil old lady slow-rolling a guilt trip out to her family about all of her imaginary symptoms she's having to deal with.

The portal is advantage for the blue bloods as long as you can win and stay relevant. The name brands still provide value at the NFL level.

Lane has been "successful" in Oxford due to HS recruiting and giving out McDonald's meal vouchers.

LSU will need a couple turnovers to win this game. The defense will show up, but our offense and OL have not really clicked. If we cannot run and keep OM off the field and control the clock. LSU will lose.

It’s not LSU’s fault you chose to coach at a poor school, Lane. I swear he thinks everybody owes him something.
