Multiple sources are reporting that LSU and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda have agreed to a new three-year deal to remain with the Tigers.

The deal includes a raise, an extension, and the new title of associate head coach, according to The Advocate:

Aranda, the 40-year-old defensive whiz whose unit allowed 11 touchdowns in the first 10 games, is out recruiting Monday, but he agreed to a new contract that officials drafted Saturday morning.

The contract was expected to include a raise, extension and a new title of associate head coach. Aranda signed a three-year contract in January paying him $1.2 million a year, and his group lived up to its lofty preseason expectation level.

Retaining Aranda was a key component in the search for the next head coach, and university leaders believed the hiring of Orgeron would keep him in Baton Rouge. Aranda reciprocated those feelings to LSU officials, and he stayed true to his word, accepting the new deal.
Focus will now shift to hiring a top offensive coordinator to take over play-calling and some believe the leading candidate for the job is Alabama's Lane Kiffin.

Surprised he didn't get more. I was thinking it would be more like 1.5, at least.

The 1.2 is what he agreed to initially almost a year ago. No details as to new salary yet

Ah, totally read that wrong. Also heard a report that used the 1.2 number. Wrongly assumed it was the new number and not the old.

Hope not. Then we lose him as D-Coordinator. Let O manage and organize (that's what head coaches do), and let Aranda and the other coaches call the plays.
