CBS Sports writer Brandon Marcello released his post-transfer portal SEC Power Rankings on Tuesday and slotted LSU at No. 5.
quote:

5. LSU
LSU went all-in on Lane Kiffin, and The Portal King delivered a revamped roster capable of contending again in the SEC. Forty new additions from the portal, including 14 blue-chip prospects led by the likes of QB Sam Leavitt, offensive tackle Jordan Seaton and, my personal favorite, Kansas State receiver Jayce Brown, will have the Tigers revved up. Kiffin also got a big win by retaining defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

With seven months (!) still to go before the 2026 season kicks off, here's how the SEC stacks up -- for now.

1. Texas
2. Georgia
3. Texas A&M
4. Oklahoma
5. LSU
6. Alabama
7. Ole Miss
8. Missouri
9. South Carolina
10. Florida
11. Tennessee
12. Auburn
13. Kentucky
14. Vanderbilt
15. Arkansas
16. Mississippi State

To be fair, A&M probably overperformed preseason expectations this year

LSU doesn't exactly have room to talk about being overrated after last season.

One team made changes. The others did not.

Texas doesn't have championship mentality. Every year they get all the hype and under preform. They get close but just can't do it
