It was reported on Thursday that LSU has signed a multimillion-dollar jersey patch sponsorship deal that could take effect next year.

Head coach Brian Kelly spoke to reporters after practice on Thursday and was asked for his opinion on jersey patch advertisements:
quote:

"I think anything that the university feels is needed relative to revenue streams, I’m 100 percent behind them," Kelly responded.

"We’re all looking for ways to help our entire athletic programs. It's not just football, it’s about everybody, across the board, all sports."

"LSU has an incredible reputation from an athletic standpoint, and if these opportunities allow us to continue to recruit, and invest in facility-wise, and do all the things necessary to be a premier program, I’m gonna support them 100 percent."

People, the dumb ones, will act as if the HC actually has a say in this.

Why wouldn't a HC support this? It allows the university to pay him more and buy him better players

If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen whether Kelly (or any coach) is for it or against it. Maybe the reporters should ask someone who’s opinion matters.

(In my best Herm Edwards voice) You PAY to win the game.

MLB fields and jerseys are littered with logos and ads, it's pathetic. Same with NBA. NFL is next...sounds like NCAAFB is also going to happen.

Private equity is getting into the Big 10. Everyone will have a patch on their jersey at some point. If LSU is smart they get consultants to figure out a good value before getting a weak deal and then other teams follow and land big contracts because the patch is out of the bag.
