LSU Sports Photography - Jacob Reeder
The LSU Tigers will open up the 2024 College Baseball season on Friday vs. Virginia Military Institute at Alex Box Stadium. The first pitch is set for 2 pm CT.

Taking the mound for LSU as the opening day starter will be right-handed pitcher Thatcher Hurd, Jay Johnson revealed on Wednesday.

Saturday's starter will be right-hander Luke Holman.

It’s extremely hard to repeat in baseball. If we just have a good season, host the regional and super regional chances are we’ll be back in Omaha and that’s really all you can ask for. At the same time, we do have the staff and the players to get it done. It’s just hard to do. I think we’ll have a little more speed on the bases this year. We will also have plenty of pop in the bats. We should definitely have one of the deepest staffs in the country and a good defense as well. Itll be a fun season.

Hopefully Camron Johnson is a starter, but hope they ease him into action. We will need his arm in the postseason and it seems like so many freshmen arms break down if they’re used too much
