Well the tax on the car is still cheaper than the car. In addition, gift tax is only over $14,000. So, you can receive 14k from one person, and your wife can get 14k. Then the other persons spouse can give 14k and 14k. This is different than “winning” a car on a game show or something where it isn’t a gift, it’s is “earned.” Bottom line, with a descent account, dude should be ok.
