After one week of the Alliance of American Football, the league needed $250 million to continue. That's when NHL owner of the Carolina Hurricanes Tom Dundon stepped in and gave them the cash, saving it from imploding a week in.
quote:

Absent the nine-figure infusion, the AAF may have missed payroll last Friday.

And there were indeed payroll issues. An agent who represents multiple AAF players alerted PFT on Friday that some paychecks weren’t received. The AAF attributed the delay to an administrative glitch.

Dundon, per the report, will be introduced as the league’s new chairman. It’s unclear when that will occur.

I don't see why this is such an embarrassment. If the games keep getting views like they have, then they'll make more money. I can imagine that starting a professional football league is not cheap. Seems like any other startup. Unseen expenses that arise and were not planned for. Just on a way bigger scale. Luckily they know the right people with deep pockets.

You have semi-pro players, gimmicky coaches, poor marketing, and the NFL can squash you like a bug. For those reasons, I’m out.

The NFL doesn't want to squash them.

I really hope they stay afloat. I hate the NFL. They just need more time and exposure.

They are claiming the late payroll was due to a technical glitch and this investment was unrelated. Not sure I believe that but that’s the claim.

If this is the case, the AAF ain’t long for this world...speaking of, this league reminds me of the World Football League of the 70s.
