Tech media turns on Apple: Will iPhone, Mac suffer?

Add to them GigaOm founder Om Malik, who ditched his iPhone last February and The New York Times' David Pogue, a true Apple lover, and we seem to have a budding rebellion among elite tech journalists against Apple. That's very bad news for Steve Jobs and company.

I recently bought the iPhone, and I am a big Google fan, so I have become very disappointed that Google's apps are being restricted by Apple.

I like the iPhone a lot, but to be honest, there isn't much it does that the Pre can't do, and it is just a matter of time before people start jumping off the bandwagon.

I like the iphone touchscreen keyboard (I thought I wouldn't but it works fine), and if the Pre had a touchscreen keyboard, I might have bought a Pre (I didn't care for its slide out keyboard).

The iphone may have a bunch of apps to buy, but most are crap, and most are games and timewasters.

I recently dove into Google Voice, and would have loved to have an app for it, and I am pretty pissed that they rejected the GV app that was submitted.

Does anyone think Apple is better off for blowing off Google?

I just got an iphone 3 weeks ago, and strongly feel that this is quite possibly the most useful purchase I have ever made in my life.

I couldn't imagine anyone "choosing" a different phone than this. This is without question the best phone on the market ... it's basically a hand-held computer that has a remarkable "wow factor."

It's not just the apps (which are cool enough in itself), it's the visual voicemail which is ridiculously cool, the unlimited access to "normal" internet, the built in GPS, etc, etc, etc. And then you've got the apps on top of all that, some of which are cool as shite too. It's truly a remarkable phone.

Say Where ... Just say where you want to go, and it maps it for you. no typing necessary.

Urban Spoon ... to help you make a dinner choice

Vlingo ... to update your facebook status on the go without typing

Google ... no need to type, just press a button and say what you want to google.

Bump ... I don't care who you are, this is just cool as hell.

Oh, so you had 28 gigs of music, video, and pictures on your MDA? You streamed pandora? You had GPS turn by turn navigation? You could watch MLB games live on your MDA? You could stream your music library over the air using an app like Simplify? You could Shazam a song? You had visual voicemail? You made international VoIP calls via Skype? Knickerbocker please.

I bet that shite was expensive (and slow) as frick 4 years ago.

i think apple and google are starting to realize that they're going to have to fight each other as much as microsoft in the future, especially as Google Android keeps making headway in cellphone platforms, and Google is getting into the business of netbooks.

I was doing 95% of what people are coo-ing over w/ the iphone on my Tmobile MDA 4 years ago. Why is the iphone suddenly such a revolutoin? Because apple made it? Knickerbocker please.

Plus the millions flocking to buy and use it on AT&T's overwhelmed network....

Recipe for disappointment IMO

What's funny is the PSP could have become the iPod Touch years before the iPhone even existed but Sony wanted to control the platform with an iron fist and crushed everything from freeware pdf readers to 3rd party keyboards. Apple is well on their way to becoming Sony, which I think has been one of their goals all along as they move from PC box maker to consumer electronics giant. Be careful what you wish for...

Apple really should have worked out some sort of revenue sharing deal for the ads that google would display. Although I've heard rumors that they're working on Apple branded search, so maybe there's a reason they are blocking G from the iPhone.

Not really. Apple has always been about style and simplicity. That doesn't appeal to everyone. The only reason so many are on the bandwagon now is lack of competition. Would you have even bought an iPhone if you didn't need it for TD testing? It seemed to have some close to deal breaking flaws when you were evaluating it.

I've heard that there may be an app for a touchscreen keyboard coming out eventually

I like the Pre but I don't like the sliding mechanism. I have no problems with the keyboard itself

i have an iPhone and i love it...its the best phone available...but apple computers are shite.

I feel glad I never got on it. Apple does some real shady stuff, but most people don't notice or care. Just take ITunes for example.

You could use that to argue against these blogs as well.....cause Apple eventually shite canned the DRM on itunes and IMO will eventually cave to google voice apps......I think if google wouldn't have gotten in the mobile phone OS business this whole thing would be a moot point and we would have google voice on our phones now.....unless att is the driving force behind the google voice restriction which is highly possible

that was the first thoughts of many, but AT&T allows the Google Voice app for their Blackberry's, so this is clearly an Apple issue.

Apple is scared that people will be using Google apps for mail, calendar, phone calls, text, voicemail...and not using the Apple apps that come with the phone and leave a lot to be desired.
