These Emails Were Sent Between Florida & UCF About Scheduling Non-Conference Series
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
The athletic directors from Florida and UCF exchanged emails last week about a potential non-conference series between the two programs. Those talks fell apart because the Gators aren't interested in playing in a home-and-home series and UCF isn’t interested in playing in a two-for-one series. The Orlando Sentinel got their hands on some of the emails exchanged between the two schools...
quote:

“UF isn’t in the market for home-and-home or a neutral site games against non-Autonomy 5 opponents,” Florida’s Scott Stricklin wrote. “However, we would be open to a series similar to what we’ve agreed to with USF … two games in Gainesville and one in Orlando. We are in need of a home opener for the 2022 season, so the 9/3/2022 date you mention would be a perfect date to begin the series, and we can fill in the remaining games from there.”

White then seemed to take umbrage with Stricklin grouping UCF in with other “non-Autonomy 5 opponents” and sent a lengthy email urging Stricklin to help him change an unfair system.

“You mention not playing a neutral site contest versus a non-autonomy 5 opponent, but a UF vs. UCF game held in our state would certainly be a sellout, which would be a positive for both of us financially,” UCF’s Danny White wrote. “I think that our team has shown on the field that we are far from a typical ‘non-autonomy 5’ opponent.”

If UCF doesn’t take the 2 and one offer from Florida, that will prove that they are all talk and no action. This is the best offer they will get from any power 5 team in the south

I can see UF pushing back the UCF home game years and years from 2022, until it looks like UCF will be irrelevant again. I can also see them wanting the game as basically a neutral site in the Citrus Bowl, instead of on UCF's campus.

Then don’t complain about being passed over by the playoff committee when your AD refuses an opportunity to schedule a quality non conference opponent. White doesn’t understand he doesn’t have any leverage here.

“I think that our team has shown on the field that we are far from a typical ‘non-autonomy 5’ opponent.” You beat Auburn once. You've done nothing.

I mean, the Vols beat Auburn. Right?

UCF is about to head back to where they were a few years ago and then they will be begging to get a home game from Florida. They better take what they can get before the clock strikes midnight.

Goddamn Auburn. All they had to do was win that game

That's why whole conferences have to be great and bring in fans and TV dollars, not just a few programs in them.

Mississippi State is playing a non-Autonomy 5 opponent on a neutral field next season.

UCF can keep crying all they want but these are the opportunities they need to gain some national respect. Congrats on playing yourself.

to truly break through, UCF should suck it up and agree to play anybody, anywhere. They don't have any leverage, so just go to the big boys and play them on their turf. Win some of those, and you get the respect you want.

Both have valid points, guess it depends on your perspective.

sure, but Florida has the leverage. UCF needs Florida, but not vice versa.
