The list of things that former Florida coach Jim McElwain did wrong during his time in Gainesville over the last three years is a long list to keep track of...

From McElwain publicly criticizing the UF athletic facilities in the past, questioning the administration's commitment, his post-game comments after the 2016 LSU game, the handling of multiple players suspension this season, false claims of death threats to him and his family, and the ongoing friction between McElwain and AD Scott Stricklin... it's obvious the marriage was coming to an end.

Bleacher Report writer Matt Hayes added that former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier reached out to McElwain to offer help and advice on two different occasions but McElwain refused.

Spurrier could have really helped out Mac's handicap. Come on Jim, you know your short game is horrendous

... how he handled Grier... how he handled Fred Taylor's son... how he handled Callaway... how he handles sharks... the list goes on and on.

This was a no-win. He deserved to get fired, but if it got out he was getting help from Spurrier, it would undermine him in almost every way. I won’t criticize him for this.

when your offense has been abysmal for years, you do anything (ANYTHING!!) to help fix it. If that means bringing in Spurrier as a consultant, DO IT.

That’s dumb. The negative recruiting alone would have been reason for him to turn down the offer.

"That’s dumb. The negative recruiting alone would have been reason for him to turn down the offer"....negative recruiting??? For what - bringing in one of the best offensive college coaches in history to consult??? Jeez man, that's big plus, not a drawback. But hey, McElwain went down with the ship - so great decision, Jim.
